"Military Strongmen" is a song by Australian alternative rock band, Jebediah. It was released as a single as the second single from the band's debut studio album ''Slightly Odway'' on 11 October 1997 as the and peaked at No. 65 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was voted in at number 33 in Triple J's Hottest 100 music poll for 1997. The single release was slightly different from the album version as it was remixed with heavier guitars. The song was mixed by American audio engineer, Chris Lord-Alge. The cover image is of the 1915 art deco style Astor Cinema on the intersection of Beaufort and Walcott Streets in Mount Lawley, Western Australia. Music video The music video was filmed at the Astor Cinema in the Perth suburb of Mount Lawley. The video featured the band playing in front of the cinema's screen while dressed in costumes. In a documentary, ''Jebediaries'' (2000), the band's then-manager, Heath Bradby, stated that "Military Strongmen" is his favourite music video. ... Jebediah are an Australian alternative rock band formed in 1994 in Perth, Western Australia. They were formed by Chris Daymond on lead guitar, Kevin Mitchell (aka Bob Evans) on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Vanessa Thornton on bass guitar. They were joined a year later by Kevin's older brother, Brett Mitchell, on drums. After winning the National Campus Band Competition, the group were brought to national attention when their 1996 single "Jerks of Attention" received heavy airplay on Australian alternative radio station Triple J – which was followed by their breakthrough debut album, ''Slightly Odway'' (8 September 1997). The band released four studio albums by 2004: three entered the top ten on the ARIA Albums Chart; their second album, ''Of Someday Shambles'' (3 October 2000), is the highest charting at number two. Chris Lord-Alge
Chris Lord-Alge is an American mix engineer. He is the brother of both Tom Lord-Alge and Jeff Lord-Alge, both of whom are also audio engineers. Chris and Tom are known for their abundant use of dynamic compression for molding mixes that play well on small speakers and FM radio. Lord-Alge frequently collaborates with Howard Benson, who has produced the plurality of his mix discography. Career Lord-Alge worked at Unique Recording Studios in New York City in the 1980s. Mount Lawley is an inner northern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The suburb is bounded by the Swan River to the east, Vincent, Harold and Pakenham Streets to the south, Central Avenue and Alexander Drive to the north, and Norfolk Street to the west. Beaufort Street is a major road in the inner north-eastern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, connecting the Morley area to the Perth central business district. For most of its length, it is a single-carriageway, two-way road with two lanes in each direction. Since 2011, the street has played host to the community focused Beaufort Street Festival. Astor Cinema
The Astor Theatre is located at 659 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley, Western Australia. It comprises a single, two and three-storey masonry inter-war Art Deco style theatre and retail building. History The building was originally known as the Lyceum Theatre and was designed by David McClure, and built by Simon Alexander, whose family owned the premises. The Alexander family also owned the Alexander Building on the south-west (opposite) corner of Beaufort and Walcott Streets. It was constructed in 1914/1915 in a Federation Free Classical architectural style and was designed for a mixture of vaudeville and lantern slide shows.
