Milford West is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the area of the town of Milford Haven immediately east of Milford Haven railway station and Hubberston Pill. The ward elects a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three town councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,254 (with 1,709 being of voting age). Pembrokeshire County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Penfro) is the governing body for Pembrokeshire, one of the Principal Areas of Wales. Political control The first election to the council was held in 1995, initially operating as a shadow authority before coming into its powers on 1 April 1996. Since 1996 the majority of the seats on the council have always been held by independent councillors, with different groupings forming among the independents at different times. Elections normally take place every five years. The last elections were on 5 May 2022. The 2021 elections were postponed to 2022 to avoid a clash with the 2021 Senedd election. This list of electoral wards in Pembrokeshire includes council wards, which elect councillors to Pembrokeshire County Council and community wards, which elect councillors to community councils. The county is divided into 59 electoral divisions, all except one returning one councillor. Some of these divisions are coterminous with communities (civil parishes) of the same name. Milford Hakin
Milford Hakin is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the Hakin area of the Milford Haven community, to the west of Milford Haven Docks. It elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,239 (with 1,817 of voting age). Prior to 1996 the ward for elections to Dyfed County Council was simply called Hakin. Milford Central is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It covers the central area of the town of Milford Haven including Pill and Milford Haven Docks. It elects a county councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council and three town councillors to Milford Haven Town Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 2,003 (with 1,658 of voting age). County elections At the May 2017 county election the sitting former Plaid Cymru councillor Stephen Joseph successfully defended his seat but by only 3 votes. At the 2012 county election the long-standing independent councillor Anne Hughes lost her seat on Pembrokeshire County Council to the Plaid Cymru candidate. Preseli Pembrokeshire ( cy, Preseli Sir Benfro) is a seat and constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The Preseli Pembrokeshire Senedd constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999. Its MP, who has held the seat since 2005, is the Conservative Stephen Crabb, who was Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (Work and Pensions Secretary) from March to July 2016. Milford Haven
Milford Haven ( cy, Aberdaugleddau, meaning "mouth of the two Rivers Cleddau") is both a town and a community in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is situated on the north side of the Milford Haven Waterway, an estuary forming a natural harbour that has been used as a port since the Middle Ages. The town was founded in 1790 by Sir William Hamilton, who designed a grid pattern. It was originally intended to be a whaling centre, though by 1800 it was developing as a Royal Navy dockyard which it remained until the dockyard was transferred to Pembroke in 1814. It then became a commercial dock, with the focus moving in the 1960s, after the construction of an oil refinery built by Esso, to logistics for fuel oil and liquid gas. By 2010, the town's port had become the fourth largest in the United Kingdom in terms of tonnage, and continues its important role in the United Kingdom's energy sector with several oil refineries and one of the biggest LNG terminals in the world.
