Milan Smiljanić (priest)
Milan Smiljanic (c. 1891 - August 1979) was a protopriest of the Serbian Orthodox Church, a participant in the Balkan Wars and the People's Liberation War, and a socio-political worker of the People's Republic of Serbia. His voice was recorded on the Voyager Golden Record saying: "Желимо вам све најлепше са наше планете" (Želimo vam sve najlepše sa naše planete; ''We wish you all the best, from our planet''). Biography Milan was born in 1891 in the village of Ravni in Zlatibor. He was the second child of father Dragomir the priest and mother Katye. He grew up in the house of his grandfather Mihajlo, also an Orthodox protopriest, who was elected MP. He attended primary school in his hometown and continued the family tradition of joining the priesthood, finishing at seminary in Belgrade. Eparchy of Žiča is one of the eparchies of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Serbia. It is seated in Kraljevo, in the Monastery of Žiča. Since 2014, diocesan bishop is Justin Stefanović. History The Eparchy of Žiča is named after the Monastery of Žiča that was built around 1208 by Grand Prince Stefan Nemanjić of Serbia, who brought in Greek builders to construct the monastery. In 1219, first Serbian Archbishop Saint Sava chose Žiča to be the Serbian Archiepiscopal seat (''Archbishopric of Žiča''). Since then, Archdiocese of Žiča was the central eparchy of Serbian Orthodox Church and the cathedral church of Žiča was serving for coronations of Serbian kings of the Nemanjić dynasty. Ivan Stambolić
Ivan Stambolić ( sr, Иван Стамболић; 5 November 1936 – 25 August 2000) was a Serbian politician. He was a prominent member of the League of Communists of Serbia who served as the President of the Presidency of Serbia in the 1980s. In August 2000, he was assassinated. His uncle was politician Petar Stambolić. Career Stambolić graduated from the University of Belgrade's Law School. In May 1986, he became the President of Serbia. He was a mentor and a close personal friend to Slobodan Milošević, and supported him in the elections for the new leader of the League of Communists of Serbia, to the dismay of the other leaders in the party. Sirogojno is a village in Serbia located on Mt. Zlatibor. The village of Sirogojno was declared a Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1983, and it is protected by the Republic of Serbia. Museums It is known for his open-air museum, or "ethno village" known as the Old Village Museum ( sr, Музеј Старо село, Muzej Staro selo), covering nearly 5 hectares with authentic elements of ordinary life collected from all over the Zlatibor region from the 19th century.
