Miki Antony
Miki Antony (born Michael Antony Derrick) is a British people, British singer, composer, record producer and property developer. Derrick, J. Vincent Edwards and Kris Ife began writing songs under the collective pseudonym Miki Antony,[ Ife biography @ Allmusic.com by Richie Unterberger] including "I Remember Natalie" recorded in 1968 by Bob Monkhouse (and arranged and co-produced by Mark Wirtz). Derrick then changed his name by deed poll to Miki Antony, and began writing and performing in his own right. His career in the music industry lasted approximately from 1969 to 1985. During that time he had several hit records, as a singer, writer, and record producer, both in United Kingdom and abroad. Newmarket is a market town and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk, England. Located (14 miles) west of Bury St Edmunds and (14 miles) northeast of Cambridge. Mary Mason is a British singer who scored a minor hit in the UK Singles Chart in 1977 with a medley of Chip Taylor's "Angel of the Morning" / "Any Way That You Want Me", reaching #27 and spending six weeks in the chart. Earlier in the year, Mason took part in the ''A Song for Europe'' contest, with the song "What Do You Say to Love?". Hot Gossip (1974–86) were a British dance troupe who made television appearances and in 1978 backed Sarah Brightman on her single "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper". Formation Arlene Phillips moved to London to learn and teach developing American jazz dance routines. Employed as a dance teacher, she taught at locations including the Pineapple Dance Studios and the Italia Conti Stage School. In 1974, Phillips started forming the core of a troupe; Italia Conti student actress Lesley Manville turned her down. Hot Gossip spent two years performing in Munkberry's club in Jermyn Street, London W1, where Phillips and manager/producers Michael Summerton and Iain Burton developed the group's dance act. Artemios "Demis" Ventouris-Roussos ( ; el, Αρτέμιος "Ντέμης" Βεντούρης-Ρούσσος, ; 15 June 1946 – 25 January 2015) was a Greek singer, songwriter and musician. Russ Abbot (born Russell Allan Roberts; 18 September 1947) is an English musician, comedian and actor. Born in Chester, he first came to public notice during the 1970s as the singer and drummer with British comedy showband the Black Abbots, later forging a prominent solo career as a television comedian with his own weekly show on British television. The Congregation (band)
The Congregation was a British pop ensemble, formed by Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway in England. In the United States it ws credited as The English Congregation. The band's biggest hit was a cover version of "Softly Whispering I Love You" (originally recorded by Cook and Greenaway's previous group, David and Jonathan), which peaked at No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart in 1971, No. 29 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in the US, No. 1 in South Africa, No. 12 in Australia and New Zealand and No. 10 in Germany. The Nolans are an Anglo-Irish girl group who formed in Blackpool in 1974 as the Nolan Sisters, before changing their name in 1980. Often referred to as Ireland's ''First Family of Music'', they were the first Irish performing family to achieve international success, preceding the likes of the Corrs. Patrick James "Pat" McGlynn (born 31 March 1958 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a former rhythm guitarist for the Bay City Rollers. In late 1976, McGlynn briefly joined the Rollers as a replacement for band member Ian Mitchell. McGlynn usually played rhythm guitar in the band, occasionally switching to bass on stage in songs that featured Stuart Wood on keyboards. In 1977, McGlynn released "She'd Rather Be with Me", which peaked at number 65 in Australia. McGlynn was gone from the band early the following year, and would subsequently enjoy some success in Japan and Germany as leader of his own band, Pat McGlynn's Scotties. Castlebar Song Contest
The Castlebar Song Contest was an annual international song contest that was first staged in 1966 in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland. The contest was initially organised by the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce as part of a drive to increase tourism to the town. It was hoped that the competition would produce a song that would make the town famous, just as songs such as '' The Rose of Tralee'', ''Galway Bay'', or '' Mary from Dungloe'' had done for their respective towns. The first contest had 70 entries from the UK and Ireland, and the final was hosted by Gay Byrne. The winning song bore the Irish version of the town's name - Caisleán A' Bharraigh.
