Mikhail Mikhailovich Zlatopolsky (Russian language, Russian: Михаил Михайлович Златопольский, born Motya Moiseyevich Zlotopolsky, Russian: Мотя Моисеевич Злотопольский; 15 August 1934 – 7 March 2001) was a Soviet Union, Soviet and Russian singer and occasional actor. Zlatopolsky was listed as the lowest bass in the world with a documented low note of C1. Biography Zlatopolsky was born to a Jewish family in Tashkent. Finished music school in Samarkand. Znamenny Chant (russian: знаменное пение, знаменный распев) is a singing tradition used by some in the Russian Eastern Orthodox Church. Znamenny Chant is a unison, melismatic liturgical singing that has its own specific notation, called the ''stolp'' notation. The symbols used in the stolp notation are called ' (russian: крюки, links=no, 'hooks') or ' (russian: знамёна, links=no, 'signs'). Often the names of the signs are used to refer to the stolp notation. Znamenny melodies are part of a system, consisting of Eight Tones (intonation structures; called glasy); the melodies are characterized by fluency and balance. Valery Aleksandrovich Gavrilin (russian: Валерий Александрович Гаврилин, (17 August 1939 – 28 January 1999) was a Soviet and Russian composer. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1985). Biography Valery Gavrilin was born in 1939 in Vologda. When he was 3, his father died as a volunteer during the Siege of Leningrad. His mother was imprisoned when he was 10 and Gavrilin was sent to an orphanage in the village of Kovyrino near Vologda. At the age of 11, Gavrilin entered a school of music where I.M. Belozemtsev, a teacher at Leningrad Conservatory, happened to hear him and from the age of 12 to 16, Gavrilin went to the children's school in Leningrad to study clarinet, piano and composition. In 1954 he graduated from the Conservatory with two specialities: composition (under professor Orest Evlakhov) and musicology (under professor F.A. Rubtsov).
