Mikhail Shakhov
Mikhail Afanasyevich Shakhov (russian: Михаил Афанасьевич Шахов; 20 November 1931 – 8 August 2018) was a Soviet bantamweight freestyle wrestler. Biography He was born in Saratov in 1931. Shakhov lost his father during World War II in 1942. He was raised in Saratov Oblast, Russian SFSR, and took up wrestling in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR, while serving with the Soviet Army there. He started serving in Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR in Kiev in 1951. Then he started training in Sambo and in 1954 became the champion of the USSR. He competed at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1956. He stayed in Kiev for most of his life. Shakhov won the Soviet bantamweight title in 1956, 1960 and 1961, placing third in 1957. His favorite technique was kata guruma. Kata Guruma
is one of the traditional forty throws of judo as developed by Kano Jigoro. Kata guruma belongs to the third group of the traditional throwing list in the ''Gokyo no waza'' of the Kodokan Judo. It is also part of the current 67 Throws of Kodokan Judo. Because the technique is not a sweep nor a trip and requires '' tori'' to pull ''uke'' into a carry, it is categorized as a hand throwing technique (''tewaza''). Description In ''The Essence of Judo'', Kyuzo Mifune demonstrates three variations of kata guruma. In the second variation, Mifune steps behind ''uke'', and in the third he steps behind ''uke'' and grabs ''uke''s left leg instead. In all three variations, ''uke'' is lifted up to ''tori''s shoulder behind ''tori''s head, and then dropped forward (as in the above clip). The drop kata guruma is a variant of kata guruma. Alexander Belostenny
Alexander Mikhaylovich Belostenny (; ; February 24, 1959 – May 25, 2010) was a Ukrainian professional basketball player. He was a member of the senior Soviet national team, from 1977 to 1992, except for an absence during a single competition, EuroBasket 1987. At a height of 2.16 m (7'0 ") tall, and a weight of 120 kg (260 lbs.), he played at the center position. Club career Belostenny spent most of his club career at Budivelnyk from Kyiv, and was a leading player in its only Soviet Union League title in 1989. Late in his career, he played with the German club HERZOGtel Trier, where he also competed in the FIBA Korać Cup. He was a FIBA European Selection, in 1979. Valerii Oleksandrovych Andriitsev ( uk, Валерій Олександрович Андрійцев; born 27 February 1987 in Kozelets) is a male freestyle wrestler from Ukraine. He won the silver medal in the Men's freestyle 96 kg at 2012 Summer Olympics. He won the silver in the 2012 European Wrestling Championships. At the 2014 World Wrestling Championships he took the bronze medal after winning a rematch against American Jake Varner, who beat him in the gold medal match at the 2012 Olympics.
