Mikhail Astashov
Mikhail Yevgenyevich Astashov (russian: Михаил Евгеньевич Асташов; born 16 October 1988) is a Russian Paralympic track cyclist and road cyclist, as well as a paratriathlete. He is a two-time Paralympic champion. Biography Astashov was born 16 October 1988 in the village of Khandagay. When he was a few days old, he was taken away from his parents, after physicians and aid workers urged them to send him to a baby house, wondering, why they need such a child without hands and feet and assuring them, he won't live long anyway. When he was five he was sent to an orphanage. The time which he spent in the orphanage was positive; Astashov learned all the regular tasks, including walking. Beside that, he practiced different kind of sports, the first one being badminton, which he had to abandon due to lack of support in Ulan-Ude. Cycling At The 2020 Summer Paralympics – Men's Time Trial C1–3
The men's time trial class C1-3 track cycling event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place on 27 August 2021 at the Izu Velodrome, Japan. This combine class (C1-3) under classification C is for cyclists who have impairments that affect their legs, arms, and/or trunk but are still capable to use a standard bicycle. 22 cyclists from 17 nations competed in this event. Competition format The competition immediately begins with the finals, where the 23 cyclists will individually in their own heat, compete by doing a time trial basis where the fastest cyclist will win gold, the 2nd fastest a silver, and the 3rd fastest a bronze. The distance of this event is 1000m. A cyclist may have a different official time than their real-time due to this event being a combined class event (C1-3), and some cyclists in their own class may have a disadvantage over other classes (for example due to speed), thus athlete factor was used where those in C1 has 93.46, C2 93.96 and C3 100.00. Tristen Chernove
Tristen Chernove (born May 22, 1975) is a Canadian retired Para cyclist and entrepreneur. Early life Chernove was born on May 22, 1975. He graduated from Max Cameron High School in Powell River, British Columbia. Chernove was diagnosed with Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease in 2009, which he inherited from his mother. After the diagnosis, Chernove switched from competitive paddling to cycling. In 2001, Chernove accepted a position at the Vancouver International Airport as a trainer and manager in emergency services. While driving a converted bus in Mexico, Chernove hit a section of the road that was unpaved and was thrown from the bus causing his back to break. Career In May 2015, Chernove was convinced by a videographer for Tourism Alberta to try out for para-cycling. Intrigued by the idea, Chernove contacted the director of Cycling Canada's para-cycling program who invited him to a try-out.
