Mikhaela Donnelly
Mikhaela Cann (; born 30 April 1994) is an Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Cann began her career playing for the Australian Institute of Sport. After a two-year stint, she then signed in her home state, with the Logan Thunder. She would spend two seasons with the Thunder, until the team folded due to financial difficulties. After a three-year absence from the league, Cann returned for the 2017–18 season with the Townsville Fire. National Team Youth Level Cann made her international debut for the national team at the 2009 FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship in Brisbane, Queensland. Donnelly was not selected to the final side for the Under-17 World Championship in France the following year. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). 2017–18 WNBL Season
The 2017–18 WNBL season was the 38th season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The regular season began on 5 October 2017, with the Melbourne Boomers visiting the Dandenong Rangers. The Sydney Uni Flames were the defending champions but were defeated in the Semi Finals by Townsville. The Townsville Fire took home their third WNBL championship after defeating Melbourne, 2–0. This season sees the return to television, with Fox Sports broadcasting the WNBL for the first time since 2015. Spalding once again provided equipment including the official game ball, whilst iAthletic took over supplying team apparel.
