Mike Wiggins
Michael C. Wiggins (born September 1945) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 61st mayor of Pensacola from 2009 to 2011. Wiggins served in the United States Navy, becoming a Lieutenant, before serving on the Pensacola City Council from 1994 to 2009. As mayor, Wiggins oversaw the creation of the Community Maritime Park, a new council–manager charter, and the ''Deepwater Horizon'' Oil Spill. Early life and education Michael C. Wiggins was born in September 1945 in Pensacola, Florida. He attended Pensacola Junior College before obtaining a degree in finance from Florida State University. This is a list of mayors of Pensacola, Florida. The mayor is the chief executive of the Pensacola city government. This list is from 1820 through present day, and includes Spanish, Confederate and United States mayors. In 1878, Salvador T. Pons, the first African–American mayor of Pensacola, was elected. In 1885, the city's charter was revoked by governor Edward A. Perry, replacing it with a state-appointed government. In 1895, a new city charter was passed by the Florida Legislature, replacing Perry's Provisional Municipality of Pensacola with a new charter, which stated that Pensacolians could elect their own mayor and aldermen. In 1931, the city government was changed to a council–manager government, which it had until 2009, when voters approved a new mayor–council charter. Pensacola State College
Pensacola State College (PSC), formerly Pensacola Junior College, is a public college in Pensacola, Florida. It is part of the Florida College System. The main campus, located in Pensacola, was opened in 1948 and was the first institute of higher learning in Pensacola. Pensacola State quickly expanded to include a downtown campus in 1957, a Milton campus in 1971, and a Warrington campus in 1977, with centers on the Fairpoint Peninsula area of Santa Rosa County, as well as one in Century. A mini-campus opened on Naval Air Station Pensacola in 1981 but was destroyed during hurricane Ivan in 2004. In July 2010, the college changed its name to Pensacola State College in order to reflect its transition into offering four-year degrees. The current president is Charles E. Meadows. Grover C
Grover is a blue Muppet character on the popular PBS/HBO children's television show ''Sesame Street''. Self-described as lovable, cute and furry, he is a blue monster who rarely uses contractions when he speaks or sings. Grover was originally performed by Frank Oz from his earliest appearances. Eric Jacobson has performed the character regularly from the year 2000 onwards. Origins A prototype version of Grover appeared on ''The Ed Sullivan Show'' on Christmas Eve in 1967. This puppet had greenish-brown fur and a red nose. He also had a raspier voice – somewhat like Cookie Monster's – and was played a bit more unkempt than Grover would later behave. The Freedom of the City (or Borough in some parts of the UK) is an honour bestowed by a municipality upon a valued member of the community, or upon a visiting celebrity or dignitary. Arising from the medieval practice of granting respected citizens freedom from serfdom, the tradition still lives on in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand—although today the title of "freeman" confers no special privileges.
