Mike Walker (pitcher, Born 1965)
Michael Aaron Walker (born June 23, 1965 in Houston, Texas) is an American former professional baseball player. A pitcher, Walker played Major League Baseball (MLB) in with the Seattle Mariners. Career Walker, who prefers to go by Mike, was raised in Splendora/Cleveland, Texas by his parents Barbara and L.G. In High School, Mike aka "The Walk" was an All-Star athlete who lettered in basketball and baseball. He went to the University of Houston on a scholarship and, as a pitcher, enjoyed many successes as a Cougar. On June 2, 1986 Mike was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2nd round of the 1986 MLB draft. Mike began his minor league career with the Watertown Pirates, then moved up to play for the Single-A Salem Buccaneers in , where he had a very successful season. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. Mark Alan Merchant (born January 23, 1969) is an American former professional baseball player whose career spanned ten seasons in minor league baseball, parts of one season in the Northern League, and one season in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. A highly rated prospect out of Oviedo High School, Merchant was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the second overall selection after Ken Griffey Jr. in the 1987 Major League Baseball draft. During the 1989 season, the Pirates traded Merchant to the Seattle Mariners as a part of a five-player deal. Early life Merchant was born on January 23, 1969, in Dunkirk, New York.
