Mike Tucker (equestrian)
Michael Edward George Tucker (30 November 1944 – 28 March 2018) was a British equestrian rider, who was better known more as Britain's main equestrian (eventing) commentator. Career He competed in eventing. He was on the board of British Eventing from 1999 to 2005. He worked with the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). He designed horse eventing courses. In April 2017 Tucker announced that he was retiring from commentating bowing out at the 2017 Badminton Horse Trials. Personal life He lived in Cotswold District at Long Newnton. He was a beef farmer, with Wagyu cattle. He was married to Angela. He took part in the Duke of Beaufort's Hunt. He died suddenly on 28 March 2018 at the age of 73. Eventing
Eventing (also known as three day eventing or horse trials) is an equestrian event where a single horse and rider combine and compete against other competitors across the three disciplines of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. This event has its roots in a comprehensive cavalry test that required mastery of several types of riding. The competition may be run as a one-day event (ODE), where all three events are completed in one day (dressage, followed by show jumping and then the cross-country phase) or a three-day event (3DE), which is more commonly now run over four days, with dressage on the first two days, followed by cross-country the next day and then show jumping in reverse order on the final day. Eventing was previously known as Combined Training, and the name persists in many smaller organizations. British Equestrian (previously The British Equestrian Federation) founded 1972 is the national governing body of equestrian sport in Great Britain and represents the country at the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI). Her Majesty the Queen Consort is the organisation's Patron. Remit As an umbrella body the purpose of the federation is the steering of equestrianism in Britain. Together with the British Horseracing Authority and the Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the BE forms the British Horse Industry Confederation. In sports broadcasting, a sports commentator (also known as sports announcer or sportscaster) provides a real-time commentary of a game or event, usually during a live broadcast, traditionally delivered in the historical present tense. Radio was the first medium for sports broadcasts, and radio commentators must describe all aspects of the action to listeners who cannot see it for themselves. In the case of televised sports coverage, commentators are usually presented as a voiceover, with images of the contest shown on viewers' screens and sounds of the action and spectators heard in the background.
