Michael Smithson (born 11 May 1946) is a writer, a former Liberal Democrat politician and expert on betting on politics who in 2004 founded the website politicalbetting.com. Since January 2008 he has been the full-time editor of the site. As a result, ''The Daily Telegraph'' described him as the 33rd most influential over-50 on Twitter in 2014. He has been described as "perhaps the most influential person in the British political betting community". Early career Much of his early career was a BBC News journalist. From 1977 to 1982 he represented the UK's radio and television journalists on the National Executive Committee of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). Mike Smithson (born 26 November) is a political reporter and presenter for ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia and can be heard on Adelaide radio station FIVEaa discussing political events with Leon Byner. Career Smithson started his career in print media with Messenger Newspapers in the mid 1970s. He later moved to television joining the ''Seven News'' in Adelaide, later becoming the senior police reporter with ''Seven News'' in Melbourne. Mike returned to Adelaide and became Network Ten's first weekend newsreader before becoming a bureau chief with the Hinch and Real Life programs. He has previously been brief host of '' Today Tonight'' Adelaide and European Correspondent. Billy Mike Smithson (born January 21, 1955) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) right-handed pitcher who played for the Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, and Boston Red Sox from 1982 to 1989. Amateur career Smithson attended the University of Tennessee, and in 1975 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was selected by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 1976 Major League Baseball Draft. Professional career During the course of his seven-year minor league career, he participated in the longest baseball game in history between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings during the 1981 season. During the early morning hours of Sunday, April 19, 1981, he worked the full 15th, 16th and 17th innings, and got two outs in the 18th inning before turning the ball over to Win Remmerswaal.
