Mike Schultz (politician)
Mike Schultz (born August 19) is an American politician from Utah. He is a Republican member of the Utah State House, representing the state's 12th house district. He currently serves as the Majority leader in the House, a position he has held since November 9, 2021 when his predecessor in that office, Francis Gibson abruptly resigned from the legislature. Early life and career A lifelong resident of Hooper, Roy and West Haven, Schultz grew up working on his grandfather's cattle farm. An entrepreneur, he went on to obtain his general contractor's license and started building homes at age 20. He now is a real estate developer and president of Castle Creek Homes. He worked with his good friend Michael Hall. Political career Schultz was first elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2014 and began serving January 1, 2015. Hooper, Utah
Hooper is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States, first called Muskrat Springs and later Hooperville for Captain William Henry Hooper, an early Utah delegate to Congress. The population was 9,087 at the 2020 census, up from the 2010 figure of 6,932. Prior to the city's incorporation on November 30, 2000, Hooper was an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP). Hooper is part of the Ogden– Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. The current mayor is Dale R. Fowers. History Hooper was settled in 1854, and become a township in 1997 (about 15 years after a failed vote to incorporate). Exhaust gas or flue gas is emitted as a result of the combustion of fuels such as natural gas, gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel, fuel oil, biodiesel blends, or coal. According to the type of engine, it is discharged into the atmosphere through an exhaust pipe, flue gas stack, or propelling nozzle. It often disperses downwind in a pattern called an ''exhaust plume''. It is a major component of motor vehicle emissions (and from stationary internal combustion engines), which can also include crankcase blow-by and evaporation of unused gasoline. Motor vehicle emissions contribute to air pollution and are a major ingredient in the creation of smog in some large cities. A 2013 study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) indicates that 53,000 early deaths occur per year in the United States alone because of vehicle emissions. The office of the lieutenant governor of Utah was created in 1975. Nine people have held the position since then. Prior to the creation of the lieutenant governor's office, the succession to the governorship of Utah was held by the Utah Secretary of State. KUED (channel 7), branded on-air as PBS Utah, is a PBS member television station in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The station is owned by the University of Utah, and has studios at the Eccles Broadcast Center on Wasatch Drive in the northeastern section of Salt Lake City; its transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak in the Oquirrh Mountains, southwest of Salt Lake City. Air quality in Utah is often some of the worst in the United States. Poor air quality in Utah is due to the mountainous topography which can cause pollutants to build up near the surface (especially during inversions) combined with the prevalence of emissions from gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles, especially older models. Burning wood fuel for home heating can also contribute significantly to poor air quality. Homes heated with wood contribute about 3000 times the amount of pollution as homes heated with natural gas. About 50% of air pollution in Salt Lake County is from vehicles. In 2017 the American Lung Association (ALA) ranked Salt Lake City-Provo-Orem area as the 14th worst city for ozone air quality in the U.S. and 8th for worst short-term particle pollution, just after Los Angeles.
