Mike Sabin
Michael Lewis Sabin (born 24 September 1968) is a former police officer, drug educator and New Zealand politician. He is a member of the New Zealand National Party, National Party and was a member of the New Zealand House of Representatives, House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015. He is the father of former ''3 News'' political reporter Brook Sabin. Personal Sabin was raised and schooled in Whangarei. Sabin wrote a book called ''The Long Way Home'' after his son Darryl received a brain injury playing rugby in 2009. The book is about Darryl's injury and the challenges the family overcame working towards his recovery. His son is now a motivational speaker. Career Sabin was first employed as a Seaman Officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy in the 1980s. John Carter (New Zealand Politician)
John McGregor Carter (born 8 May 1950) is a New Zealand politician, and member of the National Party. He represented the Bay of Islands, Far North and Northland electorates in Parliament from 1987 until July 2011, when he became New Zealand's High Commissioner to the Cook Islands. Since the October 2013 local elections, he was mayor of the Far North District for 9 years until his retirement from politics in 2022. Early life He was born in Te Kōpuru, Northland and educated at Otamatea High School. Before entering politics, Carter worked as a local government administration official. He was the county clerk and principal officer at Hokianga County Council until his election to Parliament in 1987. Carter is married, and has one daughter and two sons. Northland (New Zealand Electorate)
Northland is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the New Zealand House of Representatives. The electorate was established for the 1996 election. It was represented by National Party MP John Carter from 1996 to 2011, and then National's Mike Sabin until his resignation on 30 January 2015. The by-election in March 2015 was won by New Zealand First party leader Winston Peters. Peters was defeated by National's Matt King in the 2017 general election. Karikari
The Karikari Peninsula on the east coast of the far north of Northland Region, Northland, New Zealand, is between Rangaunu Harbour to the west, and Doubtless Bay to the southeast. It is a right-angled land mass of two relatively distinct parts. 2015 Northland By-election
A by-election was held in the Northland electorate on 28 March 2015. The seat had been vacated following the resignation of Mike Sabin of the National Party from the House of Representatives on 30 January 2015. Northland was generally regarded as a safe National seat; the party has held the seat since its creation for the . The election was won by Winston Peters of New Zealand First. As Peters was already a list MP for his party, this allowed New Zealand First an additional list member, Ria Bond, to join parliament.
