Mike Rivera (born January 10, 1986) is a former American football linebacker and tight end. He played college football at Kansas. Professional career Chicago Bears After going undrafted in the 2009 NFL draft, Rivera signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2009. He was cut on September 5, 2009. Tennessee Titans On September 7, 2009, the Tennessee Titans signed Rivera to their practice squad. He was signed to a future contract with the Titans after the 2009 season on January 4, 2010. He was waived on August 31, 2010. Green Bay Packers Rivera was signed to the Green Bay Packers' practice squad on October 13, 2010. The tight end (TE) is a position in American football, arena football, and Canadian football, on the offense. The tight end is often a hybrid position with the characteristics and roles of both an offensive lineman and a wide receiver. Like offensive linemen, they are usually lined up on the offensive line and are large enough to be effective blockers. On the other hand, unlike offensive linemen, they are eligible receivers adept enough to warrant a defense's attention when running pass patterns. 2009 NFL Draft
The 2009 NFL Draft was the seventy-fourth annual meeting of National Football League (NFL) franchises to select newly eligible football players. The draft took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York, on April 25 and 26, 2009. The draft consisted of two rounds on the first day, starting at 4:00 pm EDT, and five rounds on the second day, starting at 10:00 am EDT. To compensate for the time change from the previous year and in an effort to help shorten the draft, teams were no longer on the clock for 15 minutes in the first round and 10 minutes in the second round. Each team now had 10 minutes to make their selection in the first round and seven minutes in the second round. Rounds three through seven were shortened to five minutes per team.
