Mike Raines
Vaughn Michael Raines (born February 14, 1953) is a former professional and college football player. Raines was an Associated Press second-team All American his senior year at Alabama and was also chosen for the All-SEC defensive team. Raines was also the 1973 defensive player of the year at Alabama and played alongside Too Tall Jones in the 1973 Senior Bowl. Following the Senior Bowl Raines was drafted in the 1st. Round of the 1984 WFL draft by the California Suns and in the 6th Round of the NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Raines chose to play in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers instead of in the WFL. Following the 74 season he left the NFL for the CFL and played for the Montreal Alouettes. Raines played in the Canadian football league for nine seasons for three teams, Montreal (1975), Ottawa (1975-1982), Winnipeg (1982). He was named CFL Eastern Conference All-Star in 1978 and 1981. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach.
