Mike Pride (musician)
Mike Pride is an American, New York City based drummer/percussionist, composer & improviser, sometimes vocalist, and educator, born on July 7. He is known for the large number of bands he plays with, and has a significant reputation in a multiplicity of musical communities around the world. Time Out NY says of one album featuring him "''Pride has backed brainy jazz legend Anthony Braxton as well as political punks Millions of Dead Cops. Those influences and countless others speed by here, but the flow of ideas is so continuous that the album never feels like pastiche.''". Born and raised in Southern Maine, but based out of New York City since 2000, Mike Pride currently performs solo, leads modern-jazz quartet From Bacteria To Boys, the 7-drummer installation-band Drummer's Corpse, and the piano trio I HATE WORK (which interprets the songs of Pride's former band, hardcore legends, MDC). Drew Gress
Drew Gress (born November 20, 1959) is an American jazz double-bassist and composer born in Trenton, New Jersey and raised in the Philadelphia area. Biography Gress studied at Towson State University and Manhattan School of Music. In the late 1980s he worked with Phil Haynes, recording several albums with the group ''Joint Venture''. In 1998, he released his first album as leader, ''Heyday'', with his band Jagged Sky (featuring David Binney, Ben Monder, and Kenny Wollesen). Gress wrote all except two of the compositions. Two years later, he recorded ''Spin & Drift'', on which he also played steel guitar. He recorded material for two further albums – ''7 Black Butterflies'' and ''The Irrational Numbers'' – in 2004. Gress has taught at Peabody Conservatory and Western Connecticut State University. André Vida
André Vida (born 1974) is Hungarian-American saxophonist, lyricist, avant-garde musician and experimental composer based in Berlin. Vida has been on the forefront of several major developments in experimental music, including his membership in Anthony Braxton’s original Ghost Trance Ensemble, as founding member of New York collective the CTIA, performances with The Tower Recordings and subsequent ‘ freak folk’ groups. Sonny Simmons
Huey "Sonny" Simmons (August 4, 1933 – April 6, 2021) was an American jazz musician. Biography Simmons was born on August 4, 1933 in Sicily Island, Louisiana. He grew up in Oakland, California, where he began playing the English horn. (Along with Vinny Golia, Simmons was among the few musicians to play the instrument in a jazz context.) At age 16 he took up the alto saxophone, which became his primary instrument. Simmons played primarily in an avant-garde style, often delving into free jazz. William Parker (musician)
William Parker (born January 10, 1952) is an American free jazz double bassist. Beginning in the 1980s, Parker played with Cecil Taylor for over a decade, and he has led the Little Huey Creative Music Orchestra since 1981. ''The Village Voice'' named him "the most consistently brilliant free jazz bassist of all time" and ''DownBeat'' has called him "one of the most adventurous and prolific bandleaders in jazz". Joe Morris (guitarist)
Joseph Francis Michael Morris (born September 13, 1955) is an American jazz guitarist, bassist, composer, and educator. Early life Morris was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on September 13, 1955. He switched from trumpet to guitar at the age of fourteen. He was self-taught. His interest in jazz began two years later, after attending a John McLaughlin concert and listening to John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Pharoah Sanders recordings. Later life and career Morris moved to Boston in 1975, "where his unique approach was not initially accepted in the then-prevalent modal jazz scene.
