Mike Martin (basketball, Born 1982)
Mike Martin (born 1982) is the college basketball head coach for the Brown University Bears and a former college basketball player. He was also assistant coach with the Penn Quakers before becoming head coach at Brown. Playing career Martin was in the starting lineup all four years of college basketball at Brown University. He was a member of the most successful class in the Bears' 100-year basketball history (63-45 four-year record). He also helped the Class of 2004 to a school-record 39-17 Ivy League mark during that period—the third best by an Ivy League team since 1970. Martin ranks 10th in career assists at Brown University with 232. Coaching career He served as assistant coach for the Quakers for six years and his roles were to recruit and mentor players. The 2019–20 Brown Bears men's basketball team represented Brown University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bears, led by eighth-year head coach Mike Martin, played their home games at the Paul Bailey Pizzitola Memorial Sports Center in Providence, Rhode Island, as members of the Ivy League. 2019–20 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 5, 2019. The first tournament was the 2K Sports Classic and the season concluded prematurely on March 12, 2020. The 2020 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was scheduled to end in Atlanta on April 6, 2020, but was ultimately canceled. All other postseason tournaments were canceled as well. Practices officially began in late September. On March 12, 2020, the NCAA announced that all remaining winter and spring championships for both men's and women's sports were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first cancellation in the history of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. The NCAA did not name an official national champion after the tournament was canceled. The 2019 College Basketball Invitational (CBI) was a single-elimination men's college basketball tournament consisting of 16 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I teams that did not participate in the 2019 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament or the NIT. It was held from March 19 through April 5, 2019 in various arenas. This event marked the 12th year the tournament has been held. The 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 11, 2016. The first tournament was the 2K Sports Classic, and ended with the Final Four in Glendale, Arizona on April 3, 2017. Practices officially began on September 30, 2016. Rule changes The only rule change for the regular season was allowing coaches to ask for timeouts in situations of inbounds on offense or defense. Coaches are still not permitted to call timeouts in live-ball situations. The NCAA approved a number of experimental rule changes for use in the 2017 postseason NIT: * Team fouls were reset to zero at the 10:00 mark of each half.
