Mike Hastings (ice Hockey)
Mike Hastings (born February 3, 1966) is the current head ice hockey coach of the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks. He was formerly the head coach and general manager of the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League. He is also the coach for the United States World Juniors team. Career He was the head coach of the Omaha/River City Lancers from 1994–2008 where he was twice named the USHL Coach of the Year (1996–97 and 2001–02) and five times was named the USHL General Manager of the Year (1997, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2008). After a successful 14-year run in the USHL Hastings returned to the college ranks, joining the staff at Minnesota as an assistant for a year before becoming an associate head coach at Nebraska–Omaha. Minnesota State Mavericks Men's Ice Hockey
The Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Mavericks compete in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). Their home arena is the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center located in downtown Mankato, Minnesota. History The Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team commenced play as a varsity sport in 1969-70. They competed independent of a conference affiliation at the NCAA Division II level from 1969-70 to 1983-84. Mankato ( ) is a city in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, Blue Earth, Nicollet County, Minnesota, Nicollet, and Le Sueur County, Minnesota, Le Sueur counties in the state of Minnesota. United States Hockey League
The United States Hockey League (USHL) is the top junior ice hockey league sanctioned by USA Hockey. The league consists of 16 active teams located in the midwestern United States, for players between the ages of 16 and 21. The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA college hockey. CCHA Coach Of The Year
The CCHA Coach of the Year is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season to the best coach in the conference as voted by the coaches of each CCHA team. The Spencer Penrose Award is awarded yearly to the top coach in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey by the American Hockey Coaches Association. Western Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Individual Awards
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association gives awards at the conclusion of each season. The current awards include Player of the Year, Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year, as well as the league leaders in points scoring and goaltending. In addition, several WCHA players have won the Hobey Baker Award for the nation's best college hockey player. The 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on November 14, 2020 and concluded with the Frozen Four on April 10, 2021. Due to the cancellation of the previous year's tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic, this was the 73rd season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held, and was US college hockey's 127th year overall. Due to concerns related to the pandemic, the start of the season was delayed until what would have normally been the 8th week of play. Despite having to contend with contend with cancellations and delays due to the pandemic, the season was completed.
