Mike Gordon (politician)
Mike Gordon (November 15, 1957 – June 25, 2005) was an American politician who served as a member of the California State Assembly. After his swearing in in December 2004, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March and died in June 2005. Prior to his time in the Assembly, he served as the mayor of El Segundo, CA El Segundo ( , ; ) is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Redondo Beach (Spanish for ''round'') is a coastal city in Los Angeles County, California, United States, located in the South Bay region of the Greater Los Angeles area. It is one of three adjacent beach cities along the southern portion of Santa Monica Bay. The population was 71,576 at the 2020 census, up from 66,748 at the 2010 census. Redondo Beach was originally part of the 1785 Rancho San Pedro Spanish land grant that later became the South Redondo area. George Nakano
George Nakano (born November 24, 1935) served as a California State Assemblyman for the 53rd district from 1998 until 2004. During his time in the Assembly, Nakano was chosen to serve as the chairman of the Democratic caucus. In 2006, Nakano sought the State Senate seat of his Assembly predecessor, Debra Bowen, who was running for the Secretary of State. Nakano lost to fellow Assembly colleague Jenny Oropeza by a margin of 53% to 47%. Prior to his service in the Assembly, Nakano served as a Torrance, California city councilman for 14 years. In 1994, Nakano lost a senate primary to State Senate veteran Ralph C. Dills. Nakano was born in a poor East Los Angeles neighborhood. He spent time in the Jerome and Tule Lake internment camps during World War II, following the signing of Executive Order 9066. El Segundo ( , ; ) is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Located on Santa Monica Bay, it was incorporated on January 18, 1917, and is part of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature, the upper house being the California State Senate.
