Mike Dowdle
Don Michael Dowdle (December 6, 1937December 5, 1993) was an American football fullback and linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. He played college football at the University of Texas. Early years Dowdle attended Graham High School, where he practiced football and track. He accepted a football scholarship from the University of Texas, becoming a starter at fullback and the team's leader in rushing yards (429 yards) as a sophomore. He was a two-way player and was also a starting linebacker. As a senior, he was moved to halfback. Professional career San Francisco 49ers (first stint) Dowdle was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifteenth round (179th overall) of the 1960 NFL Draft. Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. 1967 NFL Season
The 1967 NFL season was the 48th regular season of the National Football League. The league expanded to 16 teams with the addition of the New Orleans Saints. The two 8-team conferences were split into two divisions each: the Eastern Conference divisions were Capitol (Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and Washington) and Century (Cleveland, New York, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis), and the Western Conference divisions were Central (Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota) and Coastal (Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and San Francisco). Ed Beard (American Football)
Edward Leroy Beard (December 9, 1939 – January 15, 2023) was an American professional football player. Early life and education Beard was born in Chesapeake, Virginia, on December 9, 1939. A 1959 graduate of Oscar F. Smith High School in South Norfolk, Virginia, Beard was an All-American and also State Heavyweight Wrestling Champion in 1957 when his high school, Oscar F. Smith, did not have a wrestling team; the only time this has ever been accomplished by a wrestler. In 1960 Beard completed his post-graduate year at the Staunton Military Academy, where he was a standout football player. Beard played two years of college football at Tennessee before joining the Army, where he was selected Outstanding Player on the Army football team. 1966 NFL Season
The 1966 NFL season was the 47th regular season of the National Football League, and the first season in which the Super Bowl was played, though it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game. The league expanded to 15 teams with the addition of the Atlanta Falcons, making a bye necessary each week for one team. This was the last season that the NFL was divided only into two separate conferences, and only one postseason round was played, that being between the two conference champions. Dave Edwards (linebacker)
David Monroe Edwards (December 14, 1939 – December 6, 2016) was an American football linebacker in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Auburn University. Early years Edwards attended Abbeville High School. He was a two-way tackle and contributed to the team having a 9-1 record, while outscoring their opponents 281-19 in 1957. He received All-state honors as a senior. He also practiced basketball. College career He accepted football scholarship from Auburn University. Edwards was a two-way player who was used as an offensive end and defensive end. As a junior, he posted 6 receptions (tied for second on the team) for 74 yards and no touchdowns. As a senior, he led the team with 25 receptions for 372 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jim Ridlon
James Arthur Ridlon (born July 11, 1934) is a former American football safety in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football and college lacrosse at Syracuse University. After football he became a sports painter and sculptor. Early years Ridlon had to learn how to manage dyslexia and a stutter throughout his first years of school.
