Mike Connolly (Iowa Politician)
Michael W. Connolly (born October 31, 1945) was the Iowa State Senator from the 14th District. He served in the Iowa Senate 1989 – 2008 and was an assistant majority leader. Education He received his B.A. and M.A. from Loras College. Career Connolly spent 30 years in the public service, 10 of which were spent in the Iowa House and 20 years in the Iowa Senate. Connolly served on several committees in the Iowa Senate - the Appropriations committee; the Education committee; the Ways and Means committee; the Ethics committee, where he was vice chair; the Government Oversight committee, where he was vice chair; the State Government committee, where he was chair and the Transportation committee, where he was chair. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives 1979 – 1989. Connolly ran unopposed for re-election in 2004, receiving 21,685 votes. Kitty Rehberg
Kathleen "Kitty" Rehberg (née Kaesser; born October 16, 1938) is an American politician in the state of Iowa. A Republican, she served in the Iowa Senate as the representative for the 14th district from 1997 to 2003 and as the representative for the 12th district from 2003 to 2005. Early life Rehberg was born on October 16, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her parents are Nina and Delbert Kaesser. She attended Rowley Consolidated School and Kirkwood Community College. Rehberg was a farmer. She continued to function in that capacity before and after serving as a state senator for the Republican Party in Buchanan County. Mary Adelaide Lundby (February 2, 1948 – January 17, 2009) was a state Senator from the Iowa's 18th District. She served in the Iowa Senate from 1995 to 2009, serving as Minority Leader from 2006 to 2007 and as Co-Majority Leader in 2006. Leonard Robert Carr, Baron Carr of Hadley, (11 November 1916 – 17 February 2012) was a British Conservative Party politician who served as Home Secretary from 1972 to 1974. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for 26 years, and later served in the House of Lords as a life peer. Background Leonard Robert Carr was born in North Finchley on 11 November 1916. He was educated at Westminster School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he read Natural Sciences, graduating in 1938. KCCI (channel 8) is a television station in Des Moines, Iowa, United States, affiliated with CBS. Owned by Hearst Television, the station maintains studios on Ninth Street in downtown Des Moines and a transmitter in Alleman. History KCCI started on the air on July 31, 1955, as KRNT-TV, the third television station in Des Moines and the ninth in Iowa. It was owned by the Cowles family, publishers of the still-operating ''Des Moines Register'' and the now-defunct ''Des Moines Tribune'' newspapers, along with KRNT radio ( AM 1350 and the original KRNT-FM at 104.5, which went dark). The calls stood for the papers' nickname in central Iowa, "the R 'n T". The 2008 Iowa Senate election were held on November 4, 2008. The Senate seats for the twenty-five even-numbered districts were up for election. Senate terms are staggered such that half the membership is elected every two years, with each Senators serving a four-year term. Prior to the election, the Democrats were in the majority - marking the first time in 42 years that the Democrats had controlled both branches of the Iowa General Assembly and the Governor's Office.
