Michael Collins ( ga, Mícheál Ó Coileáin; 16 October 1890 – 22 August 1922) was an Irish revolutionary period, Irish revolutionary, soldier and politician who was a leading figure in the early-20th century struggle for Irish independence. During the Irish War of Independence, War of Independence he was Director of Intelligence of the Irish Republican Army (1919–1922), Irish Republican Army (IRA) and a government minister of the self-declared Irish Republic. He was then Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Irish Free State from January 1922 and commander-in-chief of the National Army (Ireland), National Army from July until his death in an ambush in August 1922, during the Irish Civil War, Civil War. Michael J. Collins (born 4 March 1970) is a researcher in the field of computational linguistics. He is the Vikram S. Pandit Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University. His research interests are in natural language processing as well as machine learning and he has made important contributions in statistical parsing and in statistical machine learning. In his studies Collins covers a wide range of topics such as parse re-ranking, tree kernels, semi-supervised learning, machine translation and exponentiated gradient algorithms with a general focus on discriminative models and structured prediction. One notable contribution is a state-of-the-art parser for the Penn Wall Street Journal corpus. As of 11 November 2015, his works have been cited 16,020 times, and he has an h-index of 47. Michael Collins is an American former amateur boxer from Texas who was a silver medalist at both the 1982 World Amateur Boxing Championships and 1987 Pan American Games. Collins was beaten by eventual 1984 Olympic gold medalist Steve McCrory in the flyweight final of the US Olympic trials, before moving up to the bantamweight division. Michael John Donald Collins (born 18 July 1984 in Canberra, Australia) is an Australian baseball manager, coach and former player in the Australian Baseball League (ABL). He is currently the catching coach for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has also played and coached for the Australian national team in World Baseball Classic (WBC) tournaments. As manager of the Canberra Cavalry in the 2012–13 season, he led the team to win the Claxton Shield as ABL champions, and in 2013, champions of the Asia Series. The men's discus throw was one of six throwing events on the Athletics at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme in London. The competition was held on July 16, 1908. 42 throwers from eleven nations competed. NOCs could enter up to 12 athletes.Official report, p. 32. The event was won by Martin Sheridan of the United States, his second consecutive victory in the event (third if the 1906 Intercalated Games are included). Mike Collins (born December 13, 1960) is an American football coach and former player. He was the defensive coordinator at University of Louisiana at Monroe until unexpectedly stepping down on Sept. 3, 2020, just 10 days prior to ULM's first game of the season. He has formerly coached two different stints as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at McNeese State University. Collins was named interim head football coach at Louisiana–Monroe during the 2002 season. ULM announced that Collins would be the permanent hire for head coach at the end of the 2002 season, but four months into his tenure he resigned after an April 2003 arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Michael William Vincent Collins (born 3 June 1993) is a professional rugby union player who plays as centre. He is a former captain of the Otago Boys' High School 1st XV and a former New Zealand Schools representative. He has turned down offers from the NRL franchise the Melbourne Storm and ITM Cup Premiership side Waikato to play for Otago.
