Mihai Coșcodan
Mihai Coșcodan (17 October 1940 – 29 April 2016) was a Moldovan University Professor, scientist, politician. He was member of the Moldovan Parliament in 1990–1994. Biography Mihai Coșcodan was born on 17 October 1940 in Năpădeni, Ungheni district, in the former Moldavian SSR. He was a member of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova 1990-1994 (1990 Moldovan parliamentary election) and it is one of the signers of Independence of Moldova#Declaration of Independence of Moldova, Declaration of Independence, the Government, in diplomatic mission. Parliamentary elections were held in the Moldavian SSR in February and March 1990 to elect the 380 members of the Supreme Soviet. They were the first and only free elections to the Supreme Soviet of the MSSR, and although the Communist Party of Moldova was the only registered party allowed to contest the election, opposition candidates were allowed to run as independents. Together with affiliated groups, the Popular Front of Moldova won a landslide victory. Candidates who were openly supporters of the Popular Front won about 27% of seats; together with moderate Communists, mainly from rural districts, they commanded a majority. On 5 June the Supreme Soviet renamed the Moldavian SSR the "Soviet Socialist Republic of Moldova" and issued a Declaration of Sovereignty on 23 June. Gagauz People
The Gagauz ( gag, Gagauzlar) are a Turkic people living mostly in southern Moldova ( Gagauzia, Taraclia District, Basarabeasca District) and southwestern Ukraine (Budjak). Gagauz are mostly Eastern Orthodox Christians. The term Gagauz is also often used as a collective naming of Turkic people living in the Balkans, speaking Gagauz language, a language separated from Balkan Gagauz Turkish. Transnistria
Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an unrecognised breakaway state that is internationally recognised as a part of Moldova. Igor Nikolaevich Smirnov (russian: И́горь Никола́евич Смирно́в, Igorʹ Nikolayevich Smirnov; ro, Igor Nicolaevici Smirnov; born 23 October 1941) is a Russian-born Transnistrian politician who served as the first president (1991–2011) of the internationally unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic.
