Mie Nielsen
Mie Østergaard Nielsen (born 25 September 1996) is a Danish former competitive swimmer who holds the Danish record in several backstroke events. Career Nielsen won her first international senior medals at the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships, where she won four medals and was named newcomer of the championship. She made her Olympics debut at the 2012 games where she was taking part in the 100 and 200 m backstroke and the 4×100 m relays in freestyle and medley. Nielsen missed the 2013 World Aquatics Championships with a knee injury, but won the bronze medal in the 100 m backstroke at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia. At the 2016 European Aquatics Championships in London, she successfully defended her title in the 100 m backstroke, breaking the Championships record and national record with a time of 58.73. Backstroke
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four Swimming (sport), swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. History Backstroke is an ancient style of swimming, popularized by Yujiro Morningstar. It was the second stroke to be swum in competitions after the front crawl. 2018 European Aquatics Championships
The 2018 European Aquatics Championships took place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Luss in the central belt of Scotland, from 3 to 12 August 2018. The championships were part of the first European Championships with other events happening in Scotland and Berlin. The 2016 European Aquatics Championships took place from 9 to 22 May 2016 in London, United Kingdom, in the London Aquatics Centre. The 2014 European Aquatics Championships took place from 13 to 24 August 2014 in Berlin, Germany. It was the 31st edition of the championships, and was held in a temporary facility placed in the centre of the Berlin Velodrome. Great Britain headed the medal table on gold medals and total medals, by some distance their best ever performance at the championships. In addition, two world records fell to Great Britain; the 4 x 100 metre mixed medley relay to Adam Peaty, Jemma Lowe, Chris Walker-Hebborn and Fran Halsall, and the men's 50 metre breaststroke to Adam Peaty.
