''Midwestern Minutes'' is Defiance, Ohio (band), Defiance, Ohio's fourth full-length album. It is available for free on the band's website. The album has received considerable airplay in Australia, courtesy of Triple R's Bullying The Jukebox program, for which it topped their 'Best Of 2010' list. Recording All of the songs recorded, mixed, and mastered in March and April 2010 at Russian Recording in Bloomington, IN, except "Diamonds Theme Song" and "Everyone Else on the Other Side" which were recorded in 2009 by the Defiance, Ohio. Critical reception ''Midwestern Minutes'' was met to positive critical acclaim. Darren of punknews.org gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and remarked that the album was "arguably the band's best album to date". Reviewers noted that the album was a departure form the band's rawer punk roots, and that the band has matured into their own unique sound. Defiance, Ohio (band)
Defiance, Ohio is a folk punk band from Columbus, Ohio, named after the town of Defiance, Ohio, in far northwest Ohio, near Toledo, OH, Toledo. The band features a violin, cello, and double bass. They have released four full-length LP (format), LPs, as well as a handful of split recordings. Their music has typically been released through smaller independent labels. They are known for their association with Plan-It-X Records, as well as anti-capitalism, anti-capitalist themes. History Defiance, Ohio formed in 2002 as a three piece in Columbus, Ohio with Geoff on guitar, Ryan on Bass, and Will on drums. Folk Punk
Folk punk (known in its early days as rogue folk) is a fusion of folk music and punk rock. It was popularized in the early 1980s by the Pogues in England, and by Violent Femmes in the United States. No Idea Records is an American independent record label based in Gainesville, Florida which focuses on punk rock and its sub-styles and produces both vinyl records and compact discs. The label also organizes The Fest, an independently operated annual festival known for featuring over 250 punk, pop punk, country, heavy metal, indie rock, avant-garde and other musical acts across many venues for 3 days in Gainesville each fall. No Idea Records started not as a record label, but as a zine in 1985, published independently by Var Thelin and Ken Coffelt and some friends of theirs from high school. By the seventh issue in 1989, Var was running the zine with Sarah Dyer and other contributors and collaborators. The album was originally scheduled to be released on No Idea Records during the Fest in Gainesville, Florida, but was delayed until December 4. Theo Hilton
Theo Hilton is an American musician and singer-songwriter. He is best known for his work as drummer and vocalist for the folk punk band Defiance, Ohio, singer-songwriter of indie folk band Nana Grizol, and co-founder of all-queer DIY record label Cruisin' Records. Born and raised in Athens, Georgia, Hilton's music is largely shaped by his experiences growing up queer in small town America. Career Defiance, Ohio Hilton joined the band in 2005, filling in on drums. He would later both play guitar and sing for the band. Banjo
The banjo is a stringed instrument with a thin membrane stretched over a frame or cavity to form a resonator. Mandolin
A mandolin ( it, mandolino ; literally "small mandola") is a stringed musical instrument in the lute family and is generally plucked with a pick.
