Midway Studios – Newcastle
Midway Studios Newcastle Limited (originally Pitbull Syndicate) was a British video game developer based in Gateshead, England. History Pitbull Syndicate was formed in December 1996 by an ensemble of programmers and artists with extensive experience in the video game industry. The company started with a small office in Sunderland, England, and initially employed eight people, working on PC and PlayStation games. Slowly expanding, the company moved to larger offices in Chester-le-Street and later to larger offices in Gateshead. By 2005, its staff had swelled to over 60 people working on PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. In October 2005, the company was sold to Midway Games and were renamed Midway Studios Newcastle. Prior to that, Pitbull had created the titles ''L.A. Rush'' and ''Rush'' for Midway. The PlayStation Portable (PSP) is a handheld game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was first released in Japan on December 12, 2004, in North America on March 24, 2005, and in PAL regions on September 1, 2005, and is the first handheld installment in the PlayStation line of consoles. It is the successor to the Game Boy and is part of the Game Boy product line. The GBC features a color screen rather than monochrome, but it is not backlit. ''Test Drive 6'' is a racing video game developed by Pitbull Syndicate for PlayStation, Microsoft Windows and Dreamcast. In the United States the game was published by Infogrames North America, while in Europe the game was published by Cryo Interactive. The game featured 37 licensed cars, plus four police car variants. As a first for the series, cars from General Motors are not playable in this game, instead they appear as traffic cars. The soundtrack featured industrial rock and techno music from artists such as Fear Factory, Lunatic Calm and Cirrus. A Game Boy Color version was developed by Xantera, a small developer that also developed other Test Drive titles for the handheld. Accolade, Inc. (later Infogrames North America, Inc.) was an American video game developer and publisher based in San Jose, California. The company was founded as Accolade in 1984 by Alan Miller and Bob Whitehead, who had previously co-founded Activision in 1979. The company became known for numerous sports game series, including ''HardBall!, Jack Nicklaus'' and ''Test Drive''. By the early 1990s, Accolade saw critical acclaim for '' Star Control'' (1990), as well as strong sales for ''Bubsy'' (1993). ''Demolition Racer'' is a vehicular combat racing video game for the PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Microsoft Windows developed by Pitbull Syndicate and published by Infogrames North America. Gameplay The game combines destruction and driving tactics in a fast-paced racing environment. It is very similar to the ''Destruction Derby'' series. Races are won not solely by coming first in the race but by gaining the most points during the course of the event, with points being awarded for crashing into the competitors cars, breaking points boxes scattered on the track, and lastly by placing high, which delivers a points multiplier. The player must be careful of the condition of his own car as if it takes too much damage the race will end with a disqualification. Big air is a high-injury-risk sports discipline where the competitor rides a vehicle, such as a motocross motorcycle, a skateboard, a snowboard, or a pair of skis, down a hill or ramp and performs aerial tricks after launching off very large jumps.
