Midnight Bourbon (January 25, 2018 – April 17, 2022) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2021 Lecomte Stakes and came second in the 2021 Preakness Stakes and Travers Stakes and 2022 Saudi Cup. Midnight Bourbon died suddenly from an "acute gastrointestinal situation" on April 17, 2022. Background Midnight Bourbon was a dark bay colt born in Kentucky. Tiznow (foaled March 12, 1997 in California) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for his wins in the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2000 and 2001, becoming the only horse to win this race twice. He was the 2000 American Horse of the Year and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2009. Background Tiznow is a bay horse with a white tornado-shaped blaze and four white socks. A California bred, he was sired by Cee's Tizzy out of the Seattle Song mare Cee's Song. The Iroquois Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-olds over a distance of miles on the dirt scheduled annually in September at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Rombauer (foaled April 17, 2018) is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2021 Preakness Stakes. Background Rombauer is a bay colt who was foaled on April 17, 2018 at Machmer Hall in Paris, Kentucky. He was bred by John and Diane Fradkin, and races for them as a homebred. The Fradkins have been small breeders since 1997 when they retired Ultrafleet, who had been relatively unsuccessful on the racetrack. However, she became an outstanding producer, with offspring including Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint winner California Flag and multiple graded stakes winner Cambiocorsa, the granddam of Roaring Lion. Medina Spirit (April 5, 2018 – December 6, 2021) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who finished first in the 2021 Kentucky Derby before being disqualified. He came second in the 2021 Breeders' Cup Classic and third in the 2021 Preakness Stakes. Medina Spirit qualified for the Kentucky Derby with a win in the Robert B. Lewis Stakes and second place finishes in the San Felipe Stakes and Santa Anita Derby. In the Kentucky Derby he was a long shot with post-time odds of 12–1. The 2021 Road to the Kentucky Derby was a series of races through which horses qualified for the 2021 Kentucky Derby, which was held on May 1.
