Midnight (horse)
Midnight (1916–1936) was a bucking horse who in 1979 was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame. Early life and appearance Midnight was foaled in 1916 on the Cottonwood ranch in the Porcupine Hills, west of Fort MacLeod, in Alberta, Canada. He was originally owned by Jim McNab. He was a black horse standing and weighing 1,300 pounds. He was a crossbred horse. He was Thoroughbred on his dam's side and Percheron /Morgan cross on his sire's side. Midnight was branded with McNab's Door Key brand. When he was a three-year-old, McNab broke him to be a saddle horse by using him for a cow horse. He used him this way for two years. Midnight's spirit was so erratic that he was ready to buck even after a one- or two-day ride. According to an article by a writer in the '' Oklahoman'', Midnight is a legend. ProRodeo Hall Of Fame
The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy was opened in August 1979 as a museum designed to "preserve the legacy of the cowboy contests, the heritage and culture of those original competitions, and the champions of the past, present and future." It is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and only inducts Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and Women's Professional Rodeo Association members. It is the "only museum in the world devoted exclusively to the sport of professional rodeo." National Western Stock Show
The National Western Stock Show is an annual livestock show and festival held every January at the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado since 1906. The show’s original purpose was advertised as showings to demonstrate better breeding and feeding techniques to area stockmen, however it was largely the main showings as a means to attract patrons to the surrounding vendors. The founders included Elias M. Ammons, president of the Colorado Cattle and Horse Growers Association and later governor of Colorado; George Ballentine, general manager of the Denver Union Stock Yard Company; and Fred P. Johnson, publisher of the ''Record Stockman''. Since 1906, it has become the world's largest stock show by number of animals and offers the world's only carload and pen cattle show. Sam Savitt
Sam Savitt (March 22, 1917 – December 25, 2000) was an equine artist, author, and teacher, as well as an illustrator of over 130 books, in addition to his own. He was designated the official illustrator of the United States Equestrian Team, and was a founding member of the American Academy of Equine Art. He created several horse charts that are considered authoritative works and have been used by the Smithsonian Institution. Early life Sam Savitt was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1917. He graduated from Pratt Institute in 1939, and was a veteran of the Second World War, where he held the rank of First Lieutenant. He was further educated at the New School, in sculpting, as well as the Art Students League of New York in visual arts. Savitt was also an active equestrian, and relocated to North Salem, New York in 1956. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum is located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, United States. The museum was founded in 1978. The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum is a museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States, with more than 28,000 Western and American Indian art works and artifacts. The facility also has the world's most extensive collection of American rodeo photographs, barbed wire, saddlery, and early rodeo trophies. Museum collections focus on preserving and interpreting the heritage of the American West.
