Midland High School (MHS) is an accredited comprehensive public high school located in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, United States. MHS provides secondary education for approximately 240 students in grades 7 through 12. It is one of four public high schools in Independence County and the sole high school of the Midland School District. Academics Midland High School is a Title I school that is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and has been accredited by AdvancED since 1990. The assumed course of study follows the ADE Smart Core curriculum developed by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE), which requires students complete at least 22 units prior to graduation. Pleasant Plains is a town in Independence County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 349 at the 2010 census, up from 267 in 2000. History The historic Southwest Trail, a path used by most travelers entering Arkansas early in the 1800s, entered Pleasant Plains on today's U.S. Highway 167 from Southside. From Pleasant Plains the Southwest Trail headed to Sunnydale via Arkansas Highway 157, en route to Center Hill and Floyd. By the 1830s more than 80 percent of the Arkansas territory's population had entered through the Southwest Trail. Midland School District
Midland School District is a public school district based in Independence County, Arkansas. The district and schools' mascot and athletic emblem is the Mustang horse. The Midland Mustangs junior varsity and varsity teams compete in the 2A Classification, the state's second smallest classification, as administered by the Arkansas Activities Association. The school district encompasses of land in Independence County, and formed as a result of consolidation of the former Pleasant Plains and Floral school districts located in these two rural communities. The Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) is the primary sanctioning body for high school sports in state of Arkansas. AAA is a member association of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFSHSA). The mustang is a free-roaming horse of the Western United States, descended from horses brought to the Americas by the Spanish.
