Miditech Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian television production company based in Gurgaon, Mumbai, and Bangalore, India. It was founded in 1992 by brothers, Niret Alva and Nikhil Alva and is today a Rs 50-crore television software company. The company creates documentaries and programming for television. Niret Alva
Niret Alva is an Indian television producer who is the co-founder and chairman of television production company Miditech. Miditech first made a documentary series on the environment, ''Living on the Edge'' for Doordarshan, and went on to make documentaries for the BBC, Discovery and National Geographic, before entering the entertainment genre around 2004, with ''Indian Idol'' (2004–2009), ''Galli Galli Sim Sim'' (Sesame Street) (2006), and ''Wheels'' (1998) (BBC World). Early life and education Niret Alva was born in Bangalore – the first child of lawyers Niranjan and Margaret Alva. Alva has two brothers, Nikhil and Nivedith, and a sister, Manira, with whom he manages Miditech. His name is a portmanteau, wherein the first two letters are from his father Niranjan, and the last three from his mother, Margaret Alva. Living On The Edge (Indian TV Series)
''Living On The Edge'' is a weekly Indian TV show about environmental issues. It was aired on the Indian national broadcast network, Doordarshan and Star TV over a period of five years, in the 90s. Hosted by Niret Alva, it explored different aspects of human exploitation of nature and natural resources and pollution. It was launched on the day of the 1994 final Football World Cup and managed to garner a large audience, as it was slotted just before the final match began. ''Galli Galli Sim Sim'' is the Hindi language adaptation of the American children's television series ''Sesame Street'' (famous for its Muppets), for India. The show debuted in 2006. For its first five seasons it was co-produced by Sesame Workshop and Turner Entertainment, through Miditech. The show's Indian production company is known as Sesame Workshop India. Production Production of the show is based in Delhi. Filming of the first season's 65 half-hour episodes began in February 2006, with the premiere held on 15 August 2006. Until now the show has produced 10 seasons. Funding for the initial development phase of Sesame Workshop India was provided through the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ICICI Bank and Turner Broadcasting. 1996 Charkhi Dadri Mid-air Collision
On 12 November 1996, Saudia Flight 763, a Boeing 747 en route from Delhi, India, to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907, an Ilyushin Il-76 en route from Chimkent, Kazakhstan, to Delhi, collided over the village of Charkhi Dadri, around west of Delhi. The crash killed all 349 people on board both planes, making it the world's deadliest mid-air collision and the deadliest aviation accident to occur in India. The crash was caused by failure of the Kazakhstani crew to maintain the correct altitude, because of confused dialogue with the tower, communicated via the radio operator, while also apparently fighting turbulence. ''Sarkaar Ki Duniya'' is a reality television show that aired on Real TV from 2 March 2009 to 3 July 2009. ''Wheels'' is a weekly car and motorbike program on BBC World News India. It is produced in Delhi by Miditech Television. At its launch in 1998, it was hosted by Niret Alva. Niret won the 2002 'Best Current Affairs or Infotainment Programme Presenter' at the Asian Television Awards for this role. Niret and his brother own 25% of Miditech Television. Fame Gurukul
Fame Gurukul was an Indian reality show on Sony Entertainment Television which premiered on 27 June 2005. The program was produced by the same production house of ''Indian Idol''. The concept of the show was to select a pair of India's best singers/performers. It is based on the Spanish ''Operación Triunfo'' and international ''Star Academy'' format of Endemol, better known in English under the UK title ''Fame Academy''; in Indian terms, it was essentially a mixture of ''Indian Idol'' and '' Big Brother'' TV shows. Deal Ya No Deal
''Deal Ya No Deal'' is an Indian adaptation of the popular international ''Deal or No Deal'' format, which is owned and produced by Endemol International. It premiered on 23 November 2005 on Sony Entertainment Television and aired on three nights each week. The first series had a set similar to the UK version, and the theme song and music cues were the same as those used in the Dutch version. Contestants held the cases. There is a top prize of 10,000,000 rupees (about $142,000 USD), and the lowest prize was originally a breath freshener, called a Chlormint, but the lowest prize was later 25 paise (a paisa is the Indian counterpart to a cent/penny), although the Chlormint would remain as a prize throughout the entire series.
