Middlesbrough Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league based in Middlesbrough, England. The league is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association. History In September 2007, inspired by the London Rollergirls, Natalie Boxall (derby name Germaine Leer) and Karen Slater (Bon Sleaze) founded the league under the name the Middlesbrough Milk Rollers. This made them the first roller derby league in the North East of England. They hosted the Northern EXPOsure roller derby exposition games on 19 September 2009, with commentary by Jet from Gladiators, which also featured Leeds Roller Dolls, Central City Roller Girls and Severn Roller Torrent. As well as taking part in bootcamps, bouts, and guest skating for other leagues, MMR also competed in the London Rollergirls' European tournament "Roll Britannia" in 2009 as part of the mixed team 'Royal Rebel Rollers'. Middlesbrough ( ) is a town on the southern bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire, England. It is near the North York Moors national park. Norfolk Roller Derby (NRD) are a flat track roller derby league based in Norwich, England and were the first roller derby team to form within the county. Initially playing as The Norfolk Brawds, they changed their name to Norfolk Roller Derby in 2019. While not a member, the league uses the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) ruleset. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Rankings
Rankings for the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) are used to determine placement in overall standings (rather than win–loss record) and also to determine seedings at WFTDA Playoffs. Achieving high rankings is also a goal for teams aiming to increase their stature in the organization. Each year at the end of June, teams are seeded into Division 1 and Division 2 playoff tournaments. Historically, the top 40 teams in the WFTDA as of June 30 were eligible for Division 1 tournaments that season, and the teams ranked 41–60 were eligible for Division 2 tournaments. For 2017, the Division 1 cutoff was reduced to the top 36 teams, with the next 16 teams qualifying for Division 2 Playoffs. E-Ville Roller Derby is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Founded in 2006, E-Ville is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization E-Ville Roller Derby was founded in 2006 by Laura "Chasey Maim" Holochuk along with six other women. By January 2010, the league had more than fifty skaters, and claimed to be the largest roller derby league in northern Alberta. E-Ville launched the first junior roller derby league in Canada. Columbia Roller Derby is a roller derby league based in Columbia, South Carolina. Founded in 2007, the league has two travel teams: Columbia Quad Squad (A) and Soda City Jerks (B) as well as a junior roller derby team, Columbia Junior Roller Derby. WFTDA Championships
The International Women's Flat Track Derby Association Championships ("WFTDA Championships" or "Champs" for short) are the leading competition for roller derby leagues. The Championships are organised by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). They originated in 2006 as the National WFTDA Championship. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Division 2 (WFTDA Division 2) was the second-highest level of play in women's flat track roller derby from 2013 through 2017. Comprising different structures over that time, in early 2018 the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced it was replacing the Division 2 Playoffs with geographically-based Continental Cups, the structure and quantity of which is expected to adjust and possibly expand over time.
