Middle East Rally
The Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) is a motor rally championship run under the auspicies of the FIA. First held in 1984 the championship encompasses a series of rallies held across Western Asia. The championship has featured long-running events like Rally of Lebanon, Rally Oman and the Troodos Rally in Cyprus as well as World Rally Championship event Jordan Rally. Many of the rallies in the region pre-date national independence, mostly from the United Kingdom. The championship has been dominated by Nasser Al-Attiyah has won 17 titles. The championship features events in Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Lebanon, Cyprus, Jordan, Oman and the United Arab Emirates. The championship has also visited Bahrain, Syria and Saudi Arabia. Group N
In relation to international motorsport governed by the FIA, Group N refers to regulations providing 'standard' large scale series production vehicles for competition. They are limited in terms of modifications permitted to the standard specification by the manufacturer making them a cost effective method of production vehicle motorsport. Often referred to as the "showroom class", Group N contrasts with Group A which has greater freedom to modify and tune the cars to be more suitable to racing. Both Groups may have the same or similar models homologated by a manufacturer. Group N was introduced by the FIA in 1982 to replace the outgoing Group 1 as "''standard touring cars''". At this time there weren't specific formula for production racing cars in competition. Dubai International Rally
The Dubai International Baja (formerly known as the Dubai International Rally) is an international baja-style rally racing event based in Dubai held around the facilities of the Dubai Innovation Centre. History The rally, a gravel and sand event, dates back to 1984 and it used to be the final event of the Middle East Rally Championship each year. The rally changed its name to the Emirates Rally in 1989 but changed back the following year. In 2016 the rally was reformatted into a cross-country rally and hosted a candidate event for the FIM and FIA cross-country world cup events. In 2017, the rally became an official event, hosting competition in both the car and bike categories. The rally has been dominated in the car category by Emirati driver Mohammed bin Sulayem who has claimed 15 victories including twelve consecutive wins from 1991 to 2002. Yazeed Mohamed Al-Rajhi ( ar, يزيد محمد الراجحي; born 30 September 1981 in Riyadh) is a Saudi businessman, entrepreneur, and business magnate.
