Middle Brother (band)
Middle Brother is an American rock band consisting of songwriters and musicians John J. McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit. They first came together in 2009, and played their first show at the 2010 SXSW film conference and festival at the Ale House in Austin, Texas, where they performed under the moniker "MG&V" in an unannounced appearance. The band played their first official show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, California on December 20, 2010 under the official name of Middle Brother. Middle Brother released their self-titled debut album on March 1, 2011. On July 26, 2021 the band played a set at the Newport Folk Festival. Indie Folk
Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music. Indie folk hybridizes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation. The genre has its earliest origins in 1990s folk artists who displayed alternative rock influences in their music, such as Ani DiFranco and Dan Bern, and acoustic artists such as Elliott Smith and Will Oldham. Traveling Wilburys
The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Originating from an idea discussed by Harrison and Lynne during the sessions for Harrison's 1987 album '' Cloud Nine'', the band formed in April 1988 after the five members united to record a bonus track for Harrison's next European single. When this collaboration, " Handle with Care", was deemed too good for such a limited release, the group agreed to record a full album, titled '' Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1''. Following Orbison's death in December 1988, the Wilburys released a second album, which they titled '' Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3'', in 1990. Newport Folk Festival is an annual American folk-oriented music festival in Newport, Rhode Island, which began in 1959 as a counterpart to the Newport Jazz Festival. It was one of the first modern music festivals in America, and remains a focal point in the expanding genre of folk music. The festival was held annually from 1959 to 1969, except in 1961 and 1962. Middle Brother (album)
Middle Brother is the eponymous debut album by the folk-rock band Middle Brother, released on March 1, 2011 on Partisan Records. The band members, all of whom had been in their own bands before forming ''Middle Brother'', described the band's debut album as a "one-off" that they didn't want to take precedence over their original projects. Background and recording The album's songs, along with 10 others that were not included on it, were recorded at Adam Landry's home Playground Sound in Nashville, Tennessee over a week-long period. The album also contains songs from each of Middle Brother's members' other bands that never made it onto their previous groups' albums. In March 2010, Middle Brother, then known as "MG&V", played their first show at SXSW, where they said they would release an album soon, depending on their bands' tour schedules. The Troubadour (Los Angeles)
The Troubadour is a nightclub located in West Hollywood, California, United States, at 9081 Santa Monica Boulevard just east of Doheny Drive and the border of Beverly Hills. Inspired by a visit to the newly opened Troubadour café in London, it was opened in 1957 by Doug Weston as a coffee house on La Cienega Boulevard, then moved to its current location shortly after opening and has remained open continuously since. South by Southwest, abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By, is an annual conglomeration of parallel film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences organized jointly that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States.
