Midburn (Hebrew: מידברן; Arabic: ميدبيرن) is a 6-day event held in the Negev Desert in southern Israel. History The first annual event was held in June 2014, and was attended by 3,000 people. The second event was held on May 20–24, 2015, and was attended by 6,500 people. The name itself is a portmanteau of the Hebrew word for "desert" (מידבר ''midbar'') and the English word "burn" in reference to the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. The festival is held near Sde Boker, and the themes of the event are creativity, art and personal expression. The burn is held every year in May or June, around the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, and culminates in a bonfire of wooden sculptures. The third Midburn event, in 2016, had an attendance of 8,000 participants, making it the 2nd biggest regional event outside the US, after AfrikaBurn. Negev Desert
The Negev or Negeb (; he, הַנֶּגֶב, hanNegév; ar, ٱلنَّقَب, an-Naqab) is a desert and semidesert region of southern Israel. The region's largest city and administrative capital is Beersheba (pop. ), in the north. At its southern end is the Gulf of Aqaba and the resort city and port of Eilat. It contains several development towns, including Dimona, Arad and Mitzpe Ramon, as well as a number of small Bedouin towns, including Rahat and Tel Sheva and Lakiya. There are also several kibbutzim, including Revivim and Sde Boker; the latter became the home of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, after his retirement from politics. AfrikaBurn
AfrikaBurn is an official Burning Man regional event, held at Quaggafontein ( "fountain of Quagga") in the Tankwa Karoo, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is centred on the building of a temporary creative community in a semi-desert environment, involving ephemeral artworks, some of which are burnt towards the end of the event. Many attendees wear elaborate costumes and some create decorated " mutant vehicles". Sde Boker
Sde Boker ( he, שְׂדֵה בּוֹקֵר, lit. ''Herding Field'') is a kibbutz in the Negev desert of southern Israel. Best known as the retirement home of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, it falls under the jurisdiction of Ramat HaNegev Regional Council. In it had a population of . History A large agricultural farm or small village existed here in the early Islamic period, from the late 7th century to the early 9th century..
