Mid-Hudson Library System
Since 1959, the Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS) has acted to ensure the public's right to free access, facilitate economical resource sharing, and promote professional library services while working in partnerships with the independent public and free association libraries in New York (state), New York's Hudson Valley. MHLS comprises libraries in five counties: Columbia County, New York, Columbia County, Dutchess County, New York, Dutchess County, Greene County, New York, Greene County, Putnam County, New York, Putnam County and Ulster County, New York, Ulster County. The System's headquarters is in the city of Poughkeepsie. Germantown Library
The Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is the public library system for residents of Montgomery County, Maryland. The system includes 21 publicly accessible branches and a public kiosk, as well as a branch in the Montgomery County Correctional facility. History Library service in Montgomery County started in 1869 when a group of Rockville and other area residents assembled in the County Courthouse to plan a joint stock library. Other independent libraries were formed in Montgomery County in the following years. For example, in 1893 a group of private citizens in Kensington established the Noyes Library. From 1893 until 1950, independent public or subscriber funded libraries provided limited services to residents of southern Montgomery County. North Chatham Free Library
North Chatham Historic District is a historic district consisting of most or all of the hamlet of North Chatham in Columbia County, New York. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. The district then included 110 contributing buildings, 21 contributing structures, two contributing sites, and one contributing object. The center of the district, along the north-south New York State Route 203, has most of the buildings. Included in the north end of the district is a small traffic triangle where NYS 203, Bunker Hill Rd., and County Rd 32 intersect. A segment of the historic district including the North Chatham Depot extends north and west of that along Bunker Hill Rd., County Road 32 and Depot St. At the south end of the district are a few buildings on County Road 17 and Dorn Rd. New Lebanon, New York
New Lebanon is a town in Columbia County, New York, United States, southeast of Albany. In 1910, 1,378 people lived in New Lebanon. The population was 2,305 at the 2010 census. The town of New Lebanon is in the northeastern corner of Columbia County. The center of town is at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and New York State Route 22. History New Lebanon was formed from the town of Canaan in 1818. New Lebanon was the main spiritual home of the Shakers. The Mount Lebanon Shaker Society had 609 members in 1864. The most historic structures now belong to the Shaker Museum , Mount Lebanon. Some of the other surviving buildings are home to the Darrow School. Kinderhook (town), New York
Kinderhook is a town in the northern part of Columbia County, New York, United States. The population was 8,330 at the 2020 census, making it the most populous municipality in Columbia County. The name of the town means "Children's Corner" in the language of the original Dutch settlers (''Kinderhoek''). The name "Kinderhook" has its root in the landing of Henry Hudson in the area around present-day Stuyvesant, where he was greeted by Native Americans with many children. With the Dutch ''kind'' meaning "child" and ''hoek'' meaning "corner", it could be that the name refers to a bend (or "corner") in the river where the children are. The eighth President of the United States, Martin Van Buren, was born in Kinderhook and retired to it. On the east side of the Hudson River, from the Atlantic Ocean, it was named after the river's explorer Henry Hudson.
