Micronecta Scholtzi
''Micronecta scholtzi'', the lesser water boatman, is a species of pygmy water boatman in the family Micronectidae. It was first described by Franz Xaver Fieber in 1860. They are some 2 mm long and are common in freshwater ponds and lakes across Europe, preferring stagnant to moderately moving water. In Central Europe, the genus '' Micronecta'' is represented by five species, as follows: *''Micronecta'' (''Dichaetonecta'') ''pusilla'' (Géza Horváth, 1895) *''Micronecta'' (''Dichaetonecta'') ''scholtzi'' ( Fieber, 1860) *''Micronecta'' (''Micronecta'') ''griseola'' Géza Horváth, 1899 *''Micronecta'' (''Micronecta'') ''minutissima'' (Linnaeus, 1758) *''Micronecta'' (''Micronecta'') ''poweri'' (Douglas & Scott, 1869) ''M. scholtzi'' is easily differentiated from other species in this genus by the twisted left paramere of the male genitalia, (see traumatic insemination) the short pronotum and a distinctive dark pattern on the head. Little is known of its habits and hab ...

George Willis Kirkaldy
George Willis Kirkaldy (1873 – February 2, 1910) was an English entomologist who specialised on Hemiptera. He was a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society from 1893. Kirkaldy, born in Clapham, in Greater London to W. H. Kirkaldy of Wimbledon was educated in England. Even at school in London he showed an interest in natural history and was appointed curator of the school museum. As a young boy he joined a debating club and spoke on the colouration of insects. He later went to Hawaii in 1903 to work for the United States Department of Agriculture then for the Hawaiian Sugar Planters' Association Experimental Station. While in Honolulu he had a riding accident which resulted in his fracturing his leg at five places. This injury never healed and his death in 1910 at San Francisco, California followed five days after the last of several surgery attempts to fix it. Kirkaldy was the author of the 1906 ''Leafhoppers and their Natural Enemies. Pt IX. Leafhoppers - Hemiptera'' (''B ...

Corixidae
Corixidae is a family of aquatic insects in the order Hemiptera. They are found worldwide in virtually any freshwater habitat and a few species live in saline water. There are about 500 known species worldwide, in 55 genera, including the genus '' Sigara''. Members of the Corixidae are commonly known as water boatmen, a term that is sometimes used in the United Kingdom for ''Notonecta glauca'', an insect of a different family, Notonectidae. ''Corixa punctata'' is the "lesser water boatman". Morphology and ecology Corixidae generally have a long flattened body ranging from long. Many have extremely fine dark brown or black striations marking the wings. They tend to have four long rear legs and two short front ones. The forelegs are covered with hairs and shaped like oars, hence the name "water boatman". Their four hindmost legs have scoop- or oar-shaped tarsi to aid swimming. They also have a triangular head with short, triangular mouthparts. Corixidae dwell in slow rivers and p ...
