Mickey Hughes (boxer)
Michael "Mickey" Hughes (born 13 June 1962 in London) is a former English boxer. He competed at welterweight and professional welter/light-middleweight boxer levels and was mostly active in the 1980s and 1990s. As an amateur, he won the 1984 Amateur Boxing Association of England Welterweight title against Robert Thomas at Gloucester Amateur Boxing Club (ABC), boxing out of St. Pancras (ABC). Representing Great Britain as a welterweight in Boxing at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, United States, he defeated Paul Rasamimanana of Madagascar and subsequently lost to Rudel Obreja of Romania. After turning professional, Mickey won the British Boxing Board of Control (BBB of C) British light-middleweight and Commonwealth light-middleweight titles. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. This sense comes from earlier "welter" "heavyweight horseman or boxer" from 1804, possibly from "welt", meaning "to beat severely", from 15th century. Shaun Cummins (8 February 1968 – September 2012) was a British boxer who won the WBA Inter-Continental super welterweight title in 1992 and went on to fight for the British and European middleweight titles. He was paralysed by a motorcycle accident in 2004 and was murdered by his carer Thomas Dunkley eight years later. Del Bryan
Delroy "Del" Bryan (born 16 April 1967) is a British former boxer who twice won the British welterweight title and fought for the European title at the same weight. Career Born in Nottingham, Bryan's professional career began in 1986. His early results were mixed and included a defeat to George Collins and a win over Daren Dyer in 1987. In October 1987 he won his first title by beating Gary Sommervile to take the Midlands Area welterweight title. He won six of his next eight fights, which included wins over Lloyd Christie and Javier Castillejo, and a defeat to Gary Jacobs, before successfully defending his area title against Michael Justin. In April 1990 he beat Damian Denny in a British title eliminator, setting up a challenge to Kirkland Laing's welterweight title.
