Mick Smith (footballer)
Michael Smith (born 28 October 1958) is an English former footballer who made nearly 300 appearances in the Football League playing for Lincoln City, Wimbledon, Aldershot and Hartlepool United. He played as a centre half. Between leaving Wimbledon and joining Hartlepool, he spent time with Southern League club Bath City and Seaham Red Star of the Northern League. Life and career Smith was born in 1958 in Sunderland, where he played football for Lambton Street Boys' Club. In 1977, he was one of four youngsters from that clubthe others were Alan Eden, Mick Harford and Keith Laybournewho signed for Football League Third Division club Lincoln City. Sunderland, Tyne And Wear
Sunderland () is a port city in Tyne and Wear, England. It is the City of Sunderland's administrative centre and in the historic county of Durham. The city is from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and is on the River Wear's mouth to the North Sea. The river also flows through Durham roughly south-west of Sunderland City Centre. Hartlepool United
Hartlepool United Football Club is a professional association football club based in Hartlepool, County Durham, England. The team competes in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. They were founded in 1908 as Hartlepools United Football Athletic Company. West Hartlepool won the FA Amateur Cup in 1905 and after the club was dissolved in 1910 its assets and liabilities were subsequently taken over by Hartlepools United, who were then playing in the North Eastern League. Hartlepools United were elected into the Football League in 1921 and would spend the next 37 years in the Third Division North, at which point they were placed into the Fourth Division. Wally Downes
Walter John Downes (born 9 June 1961) is an English professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He was most recently manager of AFC Wimbledon. As a footballer, Downes played the majority of his career for Wimbledon as well as shorter spells with Newport County, Sheffield United and Hayes. He was the manager of Brentford between 2002 and 2004. Early and personal life Downes was born in Hammersmith, London. He is the nephew of former world middleweight boxing champion Terry Downes. Playing career Downes started out as an apprentice with Wimbledon and was their first ever full-time Football League apprentice. David Thomas Bassett (born 4 September 1944 in Stanmore) is an English football manager and a former player. During his career he has managed Wimbledon, Watford, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Barnsley, Leicester City and Southampton. Playing career As a player Bassett was a defensive midfielder at semi-professional level, playing for Hayes between 1961 and 1963, returning to the club on two occasions from 1964 to 1966 and 1968 to 1969.
