Mick Quane
Michael Quane (born 1934) is an Irish former hurler who played at club level with Glen Rovers and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Playing career Quane first came to prominence with the Newmarket club before transferring to Glen Rovers in Cork. He first lined out with the senior team in 1955 and won four Cork SHC titles in total. Quane first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork junior hurling team that won the All-Ireland JHC title in 1955. He captained the juniors to a second All-Ireland crown in 1958, while also being drafted onto the Cork senior hurling team that year. Quane went on to line out in three successive Munster finals without success. Newmarket, County Cork
Newmarket, historically known as Aghatrasna (), is a town in the barony of Duhallow, County Cork, Ireland. It is situated at the junction of the R576 and R578 regional roads. Newmarket is within the Cork North-West Dáil constituency History The foundation of the town of Newmarket can be dated to the early 1600s, when King James I granted the lands which had formerly been held by the McAuliffe clan to the Aldworth family, with the right to hold a market there. The Aldworths remained at Newmarket until the 1920s: their family seat was Newmarket Court. The town was beginning to develop by 1620. Newmarket Train Station opened in 1889 as the line from Banteer to Newmarket was built at 8 3/4 miles long and had only one station at Kanturk. 1958 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1958 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 70th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 26 January 1958. The championship began on 23 March 1958 and ended on 21 September 1958. Sarsfields entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Glen Rovers in the semi-final. The final was played on 21 September 1958 at the Athletic Grounds in Cork, between Glen Rovers and St. Finbarr's, in what was their sixth ever meeting in the final and a first in three years. Glen Rovers won the match by 4–06 to 3–05 to claim their 16th championship title overall and a first title in four years. Christy Ring was the championship's top scorer with 7–11. Munster Junior Hurling Championship
The Munster Junior Hurling Championship is a junior "knockout" competition in the game of Hurling played in the province of Munster in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Munster Council. The winners of the Munster Junior Hurling Championship each year progress to play the other provincial champions for a chance to win the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship. Generally, the strong hurling counties have fielded their second team in this competition. In recent years though, they have participated in the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition has been suspended and is unlikely to be re-established. In the years between 1961 and 1973 Kerry represented Munster in the All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship.
