Mick Murphy (Cork Hurler)
Michael Murphy (30 March 1894 – 20 September 1968) was an Irish sportsman and revolutionary figure. He is best known as a hurler who played in a variety of positions for the Cork and Dublin senior teams. Biography Born in Ballintemple, Cork, Murphy was politically motivated from an early age. He was a supporter of the All-for-Ireland League which was led by William O'Brien before joining the Irish Volunteers in 1913. Murphy was also one of a number of men who marched to Macroom on Easter Sunday 1916 in anticipation of a country-wide uprising. He later became one of the leading figures in the War of Independence and served as Commandant and O/C of the Cork No. 1 Brigade of the Irish Republican Army. Murphy was an opponent of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Apart from his Volunteer activities, Murphy was well-known as a hurler. Nemo Rangers Hurling & Football Club is a Cork (city), Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club on the southside of Cork city, Ireland. The club was founded in 1922 and is involved in Gaelic football, hurling, Ladies football and Camogie. History Nemo Rangers Hurling & Football Club was founded in 1922 following the amalgamation of two Cork clubs – Nemo and Rangers. The Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSHC) is an annual club hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. 1920 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1920 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 34th staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 9 May 1920 and ended on 14 May 1922. Cork were the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Dublin by 4-9 to 4-3 in the final. 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 40th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 18 April 1926 and ended on 24 October 1926. The championship was won by Cork who secured the title following a 4-6 to 2-0 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th All-Ireland title. Tipperary were the defending champions but were defeated by Cork in the Munster final.
