Mick Leahy (rugby Union)
Michael William Leahy (6 June 1935 – 16 November 2023) was an Irish international rugby union player. Leahy hailed from Woodford, County Galway, Woodford in County Galway and was taught his rugby by the village's only previous international, winger Dickie Roche. He gained an Ireland national rugby union team, Ireland cap against Wales during the 1964 Five Nations and was a Munster Senior Cup (rugby union), Munster Senior Cup-winner with Highfield RFC, Highfield. A second-rower, Leahy also competed for University College Cork R.F.C., University College Cork and Connacht. A Gardaí superintendent, Leahy had four sons who won Munster Schools Rugby Senior Cup, Munster Schools titles passing through Crescent College. One of his sons, Kelvin Leahy, Kelvin, was capped by Ireland on their 1992 Ireland rugby union tour of New Zealand, 1992 tour of New Zealand and another, Shane Leahy, Shane, played for Ireland Wolfhounds, Ireland A. Woodford, County Galway
Woodford () is a village in the south-east of County Galway, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is situated between the River Shannon and the Slieve Aughty mountains. History The village's industrial history is indicated by a variant of its Irish name, ''Gráig na Muilte Iarainn'', meaning 'village of the iron mills'. It is probable that the village started as a place to house and provide services for the iron workers on the 17th century. The surrounding hills have iron ore deposits; the abundant oak woods were used as a fuel for smelting. These had a lasting effect on the landscape; as the furnaces needed up to one hectare of mature woodland per day. The iron foundry had ceased operation by the late 18th or early 19th century. The village also had a watermill in the valley, and in order for this to operate the river was dammed. This is what now appears as a small lake below the village.
