Mick Finucane
Michael Finucane (1922 – 5 July 2016) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-back and left wing-back for the Kerry senior team. Born in Lisselton, County Kerry, Finucane first played competitive Gaelic football in his youth. He came to prominence with his local club Ballydonoghue before later having Kerry Senior Championship success with the Shannon Rangers divisional team. Finucane made his senior debut during the 1946-47 league. He went on to play a brief role for Kerry on the left-hand-side flank, and won one Munster Senior Football Championship medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, Finucane won one Railway Cup medal. Throughout his inter-county career he made 5 championship appearances. Finucane retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 1950 championship. Ballydonoghue GAA
Ballydonoghue GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in north County Kerry, Ireland. It fields Gaelic football teams at underage and adult levels. All teams represent the parish of Ballydonoghue which contains the village of Lisselton. The club's home ground is Denis Dowling Park, Coolard. The club is affiliated to the North Kerry Football Board and is one of six clubs which form the Shannon Rangers divisional side which competes in the Kerry Senior Football Championship. The club was founded during the 1930s following the amalgamation of several smaller teams. Several Ballydonoghue players have played on the Kerry inter-county football team, including three club members who were on the Kerry team that contested the 1947 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final at the Polo Grounds in New York. All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. History The first Championship to be held featured club teams who represented their respective counties after their county championship. The 21 a-side final was between Commercials of Limerick and Young Irelands of Louth. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship.
