Mick Doyle (hurler)
Michael Doyle (1889–1970) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Mooncoin, County Kilkenny, Doyle first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he made his senior debut in the 1907 championship. Doyle went on to play a key part for Kilkenny during the team's first golden age, and won five All-Ireland medals and six Leinster medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Doyle won six championship medals with Mooncoin. Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the St Canice's Credit Union Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Kilkenny SHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. It is the most prestigious competition in Kilkenny hurling. Introduced in 1887 as the Kilkenny Hurling Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams. The championship has gone through a number of changes throughout the years, including the use of a round robin, before reverting to a straight knockout format. Mooncoin () is a census town in County Kilkenny, in Ireland. The population was 1,175 in 2016. Historically part of the Gaelic kingdom of Osraige, today it is in the far south of the county of Kilkenny, located in the valley of the River Suir. Dick Doyle (Kilkenny Hurler)
Dick Doyle (1884 – 16 March 1959) was an Irish hurler who played for Mooncoin and at senior level for the Kilkenny county team in the 1900s. He is regarded as one of Kilkenny's greatest ever players. Playing career Club From a young age Doyle showed exceptional talent at the game of hurling and he quickly joined his local Mooncoin club. He won his first senior county title in 1906 and added two more in 1908 and 1913. Long after his inter-county career had ended Doyle finished off his club career by winning three consecutive county titles in 1916, 1917 and 1918. Inter-county Doyle's first appearance outside of Mooncoin was not for Kilkenny but for his province. He was a spectator at a Railway Shield game at Carrick-on-Suir when some of the Leinster team had failed to turn up. Although aged only 17 he was called in and began his hurling career. Edmond Doyle (born 28 August 1877) was an Irish hurler who played as a defender as a forward for the Kilkenny senior team.
