Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech, MTU, or simply Tech) is a public university, public research university in Houghton, Michigan, founded in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School, the first post-secondary institution in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Jay Abel Hubbell
Jay Abel Hubbell (September 15, 1829 – October 13, 1900) was a politician and judge from the U.S. state of Michigan, who served as a Republican Party of the United States, Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Hubbell was born in Avon (now Rochester Hills, Michigan, Rochester Hills), Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1853, studied law and was admitted to the Bar association, bar in 1855. He was elected district attorney of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Upper Peninsula in 1857 and 1859. Two years later, he began serving as prosecuting attorney of Houghton County, Michigan, Houghton County from 1861 to 1867. A jay is a member of a number of species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy, passerine birds in the Crow family (biology), family, Corvidae. The Keweenaw Waterway is a partly natural, partly artificial waterway which cuts across the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan; it separates Copper Island from the mainland. Parts of the waterway are variously known as the Keweenaw Waterway, Portage Canal, Portage Lake Canal, Portage River, Lily Pond, Torch Lake, and Portage Lake. The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963.
