Michigan Solicitor General
The Michigan Solicitor General or Solicitor General of Michigan is the top appellate lawyer for the State of Michigan. It is an appointed position in the Office of the Michigan Attorney General, with supervision over all of the office's major appellate cases and amici briefs. The majority of the matters that the Solicitor General handles are argued in the United States Supreme Court and the Michigan Supreme Court, although the Solicitor General is also responsible for Michigan's filings in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, Michigan's appellate courts, and other federal and state appellate courts. Fadwa Hammoud
Fadwa A. Hammoud is the Chief Deputy Attorney General of Michigan and the former Solicitor General of Michigan. Early life and education At age 11, Hammoud emigrated to the United States from Lebanon. Hammoud graduated from Fordson High School. Hammoud earned a B.A. in political science and communications from the University of Michigan–Dearborn and a J.D. from Wayne State University Law School. In 2018, Hammoud was a member of the Harvard Business School's Young American Leaders Program. Career Hammoud has clerked for United States District Court Judge George Steeh. Dana Nessel
Dana Michelle Nessel (born April 19, 1969) is an American politician and lawyer serving as the 54th Attorney General of Michigan since January 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Nessel is the second openly lesbian woman elected attorney general of a state in the United States (after Maura Healey) and the first openly LGBT person elected to statewide office in Michigan. She is also the first Jewish person elected Attorney General of Michigan. In 2014, Nessel successfully argued for the plaintiffs in ''DeBoer v. Snyder'', which challenged Michigan's ban on the statewide legal recognition of same-sex marriage; the case was eventually combined with others and appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States as ''Obergefell v. Bill Schuette
William Duncan Schuette ( ; born October 13, 1953) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 53rd attorney general of Michigan from 2011 to 2019. He was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for Senate in 1990 and for Governor of Michigan in the 2018 gubernatorial election. Early life Schuette was born in Midland, Michigan. He is the son of Esther Cathrin (Little) and William H. Schuette, and step-son of Carl Gerstacker, former chairman of the board of The Dow Chemical Company. Schuette graduated from Herbert Henry Dow High School in 1972.
