The 2010 Michigan Senate elections were held on November 2 of that year, with partisan primaries to determine each party's nominees on August 3. The election was the last contested under constituency boundaries drawn as a result of the 2000 U.S. Census, and members served in the 96th and 97th Legislatures. Michigan's 2nd Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Sylvia Santana since 2023, succeeding fellow Democrat Adam Hollier. Geography District 2 encompasses part of Wayne County. 2011 Apportionment Plan District 2, as dictated by the 2011 Apportionment Plan, was based in northern Detroit in Wayne County, also covering the nearby communities of Highland Park, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe, and Grosse Pointe Park. It has been represented by Democrat Dayna Polehanki since 2023, following her primary defeat of fellow Democrat Betty Jean Alexander. Morris Hood III
Morris W. Hood III (May 21, 1965 – May 11, 2020) was an American politician who served as a member of the Michigan Senate. He represented District 3, encompassing Dearborn, Melvindale, and a portion of Detroit from 2011 to 2018. Early life and education Hood was born in Detroit. He went to Wayne State University and Henry Ford College. Hood was the son of Morris Hood Jr. and the nephew of Raymond W. Hood. Career Prior to his election to the Legislature, Hood was an Production technician at Ford Motor Company's Dearborn Engine & Fuel Tank Plant. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the House in 1998. Bertram "Bert" Johnson (born October 20, 1973) is a Democratic former member of the Michigan Senate and a convicted criminal.
