Michigan's 81st House of Representatives district (also referred to as Michigan's 81st House district) is a legislative district within the Michigan House of Representatives located in part of Kent County, Michigan, Kent County. Judson Gilbert II
Judson "Jud" Gilbert II (born January 22, 1952) was a member of the Michigan Legislature. Immediately prior to this term (2010-2012) he was a member of the Michigan State Senate, where he has served since 2002. Prior to that he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. Gilbert is a Roman Catholic. In 2010 Gilbert was elected to a third term in the Michigan State House. The 2012 Michigan House of Representatives elections were held on November 6, 2012, with partisan primaries to select the parties' nominees in the various districts on August 7, 2012. Due to gerrymandering, the Republican Party retained its majority in the House of Representatives despite losing the popular vote. Rep. Roy Schmidt scandal State Representative Roy Schmidt was defeated for re-election after assisting in engineering an election-rigging scandal by which he switched from the Democratic to the Republican Party and recruited a straw candidate to run as a Democrat in order to ensure a swift re-election. The scandal ultimately cost him his seat in the House. An election was held on November 8, 2016 to elect all 110 members to Michigan's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including U.S. President, U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The primary election was held on August 2, 2016. There was no change in the composition of the House as Republicans retained control, winning 63 seats compared to 47 seats for the Democrats. Members elected at the 2016 election served in the 99th Michigan Legislature which convened on January 11, 2017. Gary R. Eisen (born February 1, 1955) is a Republican member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Early life On February 1, 1955, Eisen was born in St. Clair, Michigan. Career Eisen unsuccessfully ran as an independent in the 2010 Michigan House of Representatives election for the 81st district.
