Charlotte, Michigan
Charlotte ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 9,074. It is the county seat of Eaton County. Charlotte is in the central portion of the county, on the boundary between Eaton Township and Carmel Township, though politically independent of both. Interstate 69 serves the city, and connects it to the state capital of Lansing. It is located 21.5 miles (34.6 kilometers) from downtown Lansing. History In 1832, George Barnes purchased the land that would become Charlotte from the U.S. Government. Barnes in turn sold the land to Edmond B. Bostwick, a land speculator from New York City three years later in 1835. Bostwick then sold portions of the land to H.I. Lawrence, Townsend Harris, and Francis Cochran. Michael J. Shirkey (born December 5, 1954) is an American politician serving as a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate and former member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He was first elected to the House in 2010 and to the Senate in 2014. His district, the 16th, covers all of Branch, Hillsdale, and Jackson Counties. As of 2020, Shirkey is the majority leader of the Michigan State Senate. Grass Lake, Michigan
Grass Lake is a village in Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,173 at the 2010 census. The village is located just south of Interstate 94 in Grass Lake Township. History In 1842, the Michigan Central Railroad bypassed the original village and built a depot to the west when an offer of $1.50 an acre was offered (compared to $2.00 an acre at the previous city center The village was relocated to this new location - its current location - to be closer to the rail depot and some of the original buildings were relocated to the new site. In 1887, Grass Lake was awarded a stone depot designed by the same architects, Spier & Rohns, Spier and Rohns, and with stone from the same quarry as the Ann Arbor station. Gerald B. Kratz (August 8, 1933January 28, 2003) was a Michigan academic and politician. Early life and education Kratz was born on August 8, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan.
