Michigan's 35th House of Representatives district (also referred to as Michigan's 35th House district) is a legislative district within the Michigan House of Representatives located in part of Lenawee County, Michigan, Lenawee County and all of Branch County, Michigan, Branch and Hillsdale County, Michigan, Hillsdale counties. The district was created in 1965, when the Michigan House of Representatives district naming scheme changed from a county-based system to a numerical one. David Gubow
David M. Gubow is a judge in Michigan and a former Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Gubow earned his bachelor's degree in urban studies and a varsity letter for hockey. He later went on to study law at the University of Detroit and was admitted to the bar in 1975. He was elected to the House in 1984 and was re-elected six more times before term limits prevented him from further service there. He was elected assistant clerk of the House in 1999, serving there until 2002. In 2002, Gubow was elected a district judge in Oakland County. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2014. Gubow was chief judge of the court from 2003 through 2007, and presently serves as chief judge pro tem. A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. 2018 Michigan House Of Representatives Election
An election was held on November 6, 2018 to elect all 110 members to Michigan's House of Representatives. The election coincided with elections for other offices, including U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor and Senate. The primary election was held on August 7, 2018. Republicans retained control of the House, despite losing the popular vote, after a net loss of five seats, winning 58 seats compared to 52 seats for the Democrats. Term-limited members Under the Michigan Constitution, members of the state Senate are able to serve only two four-year terms, and members of the House of Representatives are limited to three two-year terms, some of the toughest term-limit laws in the country. After the 2018 mid-term elections, nearly 70 percent of the state Senate and 20 percent of the state House were forced to leave office because of term-limits. Hillsdale is the largest city and county seat of Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,036 at the 2020 census. The city is the home of Hillsdale College, a private liberal arts college noted for its academics and its influence in politics and education. Kyra Harris Bolden (born July 31, 1988) is an associate justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. She was a candidate for the Michigan Supreme Court in 2022, but came in third behind incumbents Richard H. Bernstein, Richard Bernstein and Brian K. Zahra, Brian Zahra. On November 22, 2022, Bolden was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to replace Bridget Mary McCormack.
